Reviews
On the owner’s recommendation, we tried several of their Hong Kong–style dishes: fish roe fried rice, baked pork chop over rice, garlic choy, and salt-and-pepper chicken wings. Each dish was prepared well, flavorful, and satisfying. For dessert, we added the egg puff, black sticky rice with fresh mango, and mango gi gi—all of which were just as impressive.
Shooting Star Café consistently delivers quality that sets it apart from other HK cafés in the Bay Area. It’s more than just a local favorite—it’s a true institution.

We were skeptical in the beginning since Oakland crime rate was high. When we sat down , it was another story. Cops were also enjoying their milk tea in the room. Immediately, I no need to worry about safety.
We ordered the special $48 for 3 plates ( 2 adults n 2 kids). , and we also added the wonton noodle soup.
I have to mention about the portion. I didn’t expect such a huge portion at this price . It was a full plate , half chicken , Chinese broccoli, and tofu with bokchoi.
The wonton noodle was as my kids favorite! The noodles texture was as good u can get! It was as firm n al Dante.
Kids asked for dessert. We ordered the mango eggetts, n we added the extra too strawberry for $1.50
Definitely fulfilling and satisfying. Great service , great price for the food. Would def come back when I’m in the area.
Coming from SF, the prices were insane. And taste was authentic!
Highly recommend the braised beef lomein & wonton plate. So flavorful, beef tendon cut, and love the variety
The “TO-GO” lunch combo came with entrée, rice and a small drink of choice. I chose the ice lemon tea. The “DINE-IN” lunch combo comes with the above PLUS Soup & Salad (according to their website).

Since I had a good experience last week, I’d thought I’ll try it again. Today, I ordered the Hai Nan Style Chicken w/ Special Rice. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I had in mind…but it was good enough where I finished it. The rice was soft and had some light seasoning. The chicken was a little colder than what I expected. The ginger sauce was pretty good also. I’m not going to stop trying this place out due to an order. I’ll definitely try out other dishes in the near future.
Food was actually decent. Portions were satisfactory.
