Having been recommended this place by several people, it was really worth the trip. Booking was essential as it is really popular. The quality of the seafood dishes is some of the best in Scotland, taking top quality ingredients and preparing them in interesting and innovative ways.

Came to Inverness as part of our road trip through Scotland. So we made reservations at River House around 2 weeks prior (note that we were there in December and a bit off season) and this place did not disappoint. We felt very welcomed from the moment we entered. The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. You have to make reservations as the place is small in a good and intimate way and it gets booked fast. And not to mention that the next evening we were walking by the restaurant and the staff recognized us. Highly recommend!

Wife and I visited for a pre-Christmas treat. Easy walk across the footbridge directly to the restaurant door.
Immediately welcomed in and seated – I was lucky to be offered oysters at the Happy Hour rate, so that was my sneaky pre-starter.
Amazing seafood, scallops, and crab to start – and both of us went for the seafood stew. Unctuous, flavour-packed, and a really generous portion. We managed – barely – to split the cheeseboard.
A very good wine selection.
We really loved it, and wholeheartedly recommend it.
We’ll be going back for an Oyster happy hour (actually 2, from 4-6) in the New Year.

It was my first time visiting the UK, and this restaurant ended up being my favorite of the entire trip.
The oysters were incredibly fresh, and both the dishes and desserts were outstanding.
I had such a wonderful experience here.

We could only get a table at 5.30 on a Saturday even three weeks in advance. Expected it to be quiet but it was buzzing and after having eaten there we could understand why. You feel looked after from start to finish and every member of staff is a total professional. We were reminded that it was oyster happy hour where most places would push you to the more expensive starters. Portions are generous. The wine list fairly priced and you just felt welcome and valued. You leave feeling well fed and well looked after

My wife and I had such a great experience at The River House in Inverness. The meal(scallops, Cullen Skink chowder, Halibut and Cod) was outstanding, and Alfie(the owner) paired some great wines for us too. The atmosphere is warm with lots of energy. While we had many fun and great meals during our 3 weeks in Scotland and Ireland, The River House was a standout!

Fabulous seafood restaurant in town. Waiters were super friendly and fast serving. Menu is excellent. We enjoyed selection of bread, fried patron peppers and sweet potato fries as starter with a bottle of Chardonnay. Then ordered mussels as main course. All were super delicious and tasty. We finished with Crème Brûlée which was mango flavored and cheese cake with raspberries and marshmallows on top. Unexpected taste of both.
Reservation was not easy, suggesting to make it 2 nights in advance!
We enjoyed outside sitting area for dinner that was a very good choice as inside a bit smelly for us.
Definitely worth 5 stars…

An outstanding meal served in a comfortable intimate restaurant. The staff were lovely and service was excellent. Our food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. We really had a wonderful dinner, and would return to Inverness just to visit them again. It is a small restaurant and would say reservations are likely needed most of the time.

Absolutely incredible experience. Highly recommend the salmon pate and mussels! We had a couple of oyster shots too for good fun. Beautiful ambience, and the staff were delightful, friendly and lovely to chat to.
