Social Profile:

Maxie’s is best described as a feel-good neighborhood joint inspired by the cuisine and culture of New Orleans. Super-fresh seafood and traditional dishes take a prominent menu position, and are given a serious boost by the bounty of growers and producers in our Finger Lakes region. Maxie’s has a family friendly appeal while also being a “let-your- hair-down” and enjoy a beverage with the locals kind of place. We have great regional wines, beers, ciders, spirits, and a bartender culture to mix it up with some style and a little sass. Festive and soulful tunes, frequently live and always free from our killer local music scene, amplifies our vibe. Maxie’s genuinely kind hospitality professionals are guaranteed to make you feel great!”

Southern dishes, shucked shellfish & live music draw boisterous crowds to this hip spot open late.

The wife and I went here on a Friday night early (4pm) glad we had reservations because this place was hopping moments after we arrived. Incredibly attentive service from the moment we walked in.
As far as food goes.. wow. Clearly fresh and quality ingredients used with all of their dishes. My fish fry was easily one of the best I’ve had in years. Nicely battered, not too thick and great taste. Fries are hand cut which means they are already 100times better than most out there. Great corn bread to start as well. Can’t say enough good things. This is a new place on our list.

The best food in Ithaca hands down (and the only good seafood). I’m from Alaska so my bar for fresh seafood is high and Maxie’s had some of the freshest oysters and fish I have ever had! Cooked to perfection and the ambiance is so nice. Delightful experience. Do yourself a favor and step outside your comfort zone here. The shrimp&grits and jambalaya are delicious but their fish dishes (Ahi, specials, etc) are where they really shine.

Loved this Southern spot!

Ordered a lot of food but loved the gumbo, clams and the fried chicken — the latter wasn’t too oily and was delicious. The raw platter was also super fresh and tasty. Didn’t care for the crabcake, but everything else was great. A little pricey but came away very satisfied.

Hands down the best food I had while vacationing in Ithaca. My mushroom meal & the coconut banana crème pie were both incredible. The only downside is we were seated in the back area which was an enclosed patio type room & it was SO HOT. They have a fan running but it didn’t help much; I was sitting there sweating.

This place came recommended by a friend and it was lovely! The staff was great and the food was delicious! I didn’t take a photo, but get the Caesar salad, it was the best I ever had! I also got a ¼ pound of peel and eat shrimp and it was amazing! My husband enjoyed the catfish.

If you are visiting the Finger Lakes area do not miss this place!!! Truly a gem of a spot that transports you to New Orleans with southern comfort dishes like shrimp and grits, clams, corn bread and a raw bar!! 10/10 experience all around. Our kids loved the beads they had throughout the restaurant too- a hit for us all!

The fried tomatoes were really good, they were a little bit on the salty side but the lemon on the side helped.

I got the bbq organic tofu po boy, my only complaint was that there was too much on top of the bread to actually be able to close the sandwich and eat it properly. It was very messy and inconvenient.

The spicy Cajun fries were tasty, not crunchy but the seasoning was good. The sauce was also a great pairing.

We also got the grits and gravy. The grits were cheese grits and gravy was on the side. Very good.

The maple braised collard greens were the only thing that didn’t pair the best. It was too sweet when the rest of the dish was savory it was almost as if it was meant for a dessert.

At one point we were served a piece of cornbread and that was probably on of the best pieces of cornbread ive ever had. Service was also great. Worth coming back to again.

I finally tried this spot for an early dinner. The food on the menu sounded so good, I was interested in trying it. On this visit, I ordered a hurricane cocktail. It was ok but I think I’ll lean differently next time. I wanted to play up the NoLa vibes, but I’m more of a whiskey girl. At the table, the first thing they give you is a small couple pieces of cornbread with a honey butter. The cornbread is served cold and it’s very dry. The honey butter was nice but it couldn’t save that cornbread.

We had some raw oysters and fried green tomatoes as starters. The oysters were delicious and served on the half shell with ice and accompaniments of mignonette, cocktail sauce, and fresh shaved horseradish.

The fried green tomatoes were served beautifully golden brown and crispy with a remoulade on the side. They had a nice flavor. While we were initially eyeing classic favorites like shrimp and grits or jambalaya, the evening special of barramundi was impossible to pass up. I’ve never eaten barramundi before, which was a perfect chance for me to try it. A quick phone search told me it’s like an Asian sea bass. I’m very familiar with Chilean sea bass, but not this kind. It was seasoned beautifully with a flavor profile combining herbs and butter in a light flavor letting the fish really shine.

It was served on a bed of sautéed spinach, alongside a crispy potato cake (the potato cake is similar in size and shape to a crab cake). The sautéed spinach was delicious and garlicky. The potato cake was excellent, with a crisp outer crunch and an internal texture a little smoother than a hand mashed potato but not quite a purée. I was so glad I tried this dish, it was excellent and very light tasting. The potato made it a filling dish, which meant we didn’t go hungry. A great meal and the first of many!

We loved the atmosphere and the food. The reviews didn’t steer us wrong. We thought the cornbread with sweet cream butter was delightful, but the shrimp and grits stole the show. It was an absolutely unforgettable dish. The peel and eat shrimp was also really tasty.

We would highly recommend this cute establishment!

I was super excited to try this restaurant and was craving a fish fry but was unable to go in person. I tried to place an order for pick up over and hour in advance to give them plenty of time and was told I wasn’t allowed to place an order because they MIGHT be busy when I wanted to pick it up.
My fiance called them as well and they told him they just decide when they do or dont want to take orders for pick up. When he told them their website and Facebook clearly state they take carryout orders they just said they couldn’t help us.
We will never be going or trying again. This is not how you run a business.
