Reviews
Our service was unacceptable, but our friends at a table with a different server had an excellent experience.
Overall the restaurant was so loud that the server had trouble hearing our order. When our drinks were brought out 2 at a time, they were not correct. I ordered the Coconut Coca-Cola from the bottomless drinks menu and received a coke. When asked, the waitress replied that there was no such thing and I should drink coke. We insisted it was on the menu and she agreed to consult the manager. When it finally did arrive, it was quickly emptied and remained empty for the remainder of my meal. It was finally refilled after I no longer needed it.
We ordered a variety of standard fare including an appetizer that arrived with the meal which was not at a temperature that indicated freshness.
I specifically ordered the Bonzai Burger. It was dry, and a little overcooked. This is a burger that comes with pineapple and even the pineapple was dried out. Easily the worst burger I’ve had at a Red Robins and among the worst burgers I’ve had in general. I did not eat half of it. The fries that came with it were a little warm when they arrived and did not taste great. But they were better than the burger so I ate them.
Management had to step in later to help get refills and bring the appetizer that we no longer wanted.
After all that we had issues both with how the check was split up. We were charged for an additional drink, and the appetizer they asked us to take anyway was still on the bill. After two attempts to fix the split, half of our party decided they’d rather pay for the extra drink that was on their ticket than have to deal with it anymore. At this point we were unable to pay for it at all because it kept saying the check has changed (with no communication from management or the server between this and the last time they said it was correct).
I don’t know if it was a catastrophic service breakdown caused by an influx of larger parties due to a local soccer tournament, or if this is an issue with training and attentiveness. The variety of issues though from food quality to service do not bode well for a return trip to this location.
Of note, three members of our party used the restroom here and had a consensus that it was not very clean.
There’s no doubt that the venue has excellent design and atmosphere. The space is cozy and visually appealing, and the beer menu is extensive and varied—a truly strong point.
Unfortunately, my experience was completely ruined by terrible service. The attitude of the staff who attended to us was notably poor, marked by disinterest and a lack of courtesy. I’m not sure if the issue is understaffing or poor management, but the result is unacceptable customer service.
I believe this place is a genuine diamond in the rough. The food is good, the atmosphere is very pleasant, but it does not measure up to direct competitors like Hopdoddy or Huey’s. At those establishments, service quality meets and exceeds expectations, creating a complete experience. Here, however, there is a huge gap between the expectation the venue generates and the reality experienced due to neglect.
Service is the differentiating factor in this industry, and here it is conspicuously absent. It’s a real shame. It is urgent that management or franchise owners invest in a change in management, serious customer service training, and constant supervision for the staff. Only then can they unlock the great potential this place has and truly compete.
On top of that, the prices are extremely expensive for such poor service. This was supposed to be a special occasion, and instead it was frustrating and upsetting. Definitely not worth it.
What went right: very little. The server i spoke with was on top of things and she was nagging the kitchen staff to get orders done. The on duty manager held her temper because I have a feeling I wasn’t the first complain for that shift. The manager comp’d 2 of my 4 meals.
What went wrong: just about everything. The wait time was completely unacceptable. No restaurant would say that 45 minutes between order and presentation of the food was acceptable. The food, when we got home 5 minutes later (yes it was 5 minutes not an estimate), was room temperature.
There was a family that was there without food when I walked into the store, and when I left all that had been delivered to them was drinks.
The manager did say that she had a new cook crew and she was having to train them, but a 45 minute wait is still unacceptable. Even more unacceptable was there was not a single hat or hairnet in sight for the cook crew or the servers. I’m pretty sure that a means to contain hair is a sanitation requirement.
I’m done with this specific Red Robin, and possibly all Red Robin restaurants.
