Being in St John’s, I looked up the best sushi places and unfortunately I was really disappointed by my recent experience at Sushi Island. I ordered a takeout order for pick up- which may have been part of it. But the sushi itself was not nearly as tender or tasty as I was expecting, the edamame were almost brown in colour and did not taste fresh. The people on site were lovely and clearly it’s a well liked and popular place. Undecided whether I’d try it again.

I really like their ipad ordering system, and service was prompt after inputting requests. The dining space is a little bare, pretty nondescript. I got the teriyaki and it was delicious, piping hot, with good portions.

This was so far the best sushi we have had in Newfoundland. Of course, I can’t compare it to the sushi I had in other countries, but for Canada, it was pretty good. And, the robot servers are soo cute! The ordering process was very easy and quick, thanks to the tablets.

Excellent food, great service, if you have kids give them a surprise with the robotic cat server, it will not disappoint. Dont get the all you can eat unless you can really pack it in though. No matter what you will definitely enjoy the food and the regular menu is very fairly priced for anyone who would say they eat a lot. Food arrives very fast and is consistent in delivery.

The welcome upon arrival was top notch. I am obsessed with the cat robot that delivered our drinks/food….and for my first time trying sushi, it was absolutely delicious!!! I highly recommend it.

Food was fresh and large portions, our server, the robot cat & Carla were great! The only negative thing was that the all you can eat options weren’t great, we wanted all you can eat but at the price, you expect there to be sashimi on the menu, or more variety. Their a la carte menu is good and flavors are good

The food is absolutely delicious and, in all seriousness, I have to say that it’s the best service I’ve ever received at any restaurant. The staff members are so nice and they all seem very genuine. Service happens ridiculously quickly. Like, I cannot stress this enough, even during rush hour, I don’t think we’ve ever waited more than around 10 minutes for our food. My mother and I go fairly frequently, admittedly to the point that we get recognized by most. The quality of the food is consistant and the prices are amazing. We always get the $40 combo thing they offer and honestly, it’s such a steal that it feels criminal. You get two drinks (pop), two extra sauces, four appetizer-like things (soup and salad), four rolls of sushi, and three side dishes. They offer complimentary ice cream at the end of your meal if it’s available and ginger and wasabi are both free as well. The combo feeds 2-3 people. Also, they have robotic cats that bring you food and, I promise, seeing them and getting to pet the robocat is enough to make grown adults squeal like children. It’s seriously so fun. The ordering is done digitally and the robocats are able to communicate in a myriad of languages as well, which I assume should be good for non-native English speakers or just non-speakers, period. The atmosphere is wonderful and the walls are covered in beautiful murals. I know this review sounds like I’m being paid to write this but I’m genuinely not, I just love it that much. I have literally nothing to say about the place except for glowing praise. If you’re in the St. John’s area and you like sushi or would like to try it, I’d highly recommend you go.
