Axel’s Restaurant in Roseville had our presence on Valentine’s Day, one of the largest restaurant days of the year. It was quite an underwhelming experience. They had a special menu for the evening. It had a few options and some drinks themed for the day. We ordered steaks, with potatoes and green beans, as well as a popover for an additional charge. The popover is supposed to be a staple, and ours was a major let-down. It was extremely crunchy and dry. The butter was a cinnamon butter which was very good. The steak had seasoned butter on top, which improved it. The sides were very average. My order was brought to the table with the wrong potato, so they went to grab the correct side. The steak was cooked to the incorrect doneness, which makes me think they brought me the entirely wrong plate.

So I ordered room service at the Doubletree hotel this restaurant is attached to and although I did order it right before they closed I asked and was reassured it was OK cause I said, I could wait till tomorrow. Anyways so I ordered the twin lobster tails with wild rice soup and they said it’ll be ready in 20 minutes. I tried to call back right away after I got off the phone and let them know that I wanted extra butter and garlic for the lobster tails And tabasco sauce and steak sauce (so I can mix it together and Dip the lobster tails in them) but they picked up the phone and hung up on me in an INSTANT before i could even get a word out. I was too nervous to call back. Well It took about 40 min i could tell it was already cold when i opened the door She was really nice though, so I still tipped her well but everything was cold. I tried to microwave it. I couldn’t microwave it because it wouldn’t fit in the microwave with a giant plate They brought me and I didn’t get any side plates or anything. The soup was not WILD AND RICE soup I HAD I ordered it was some type of brown mixture goup with vegetable It was starting to solidify on the top of it so I might grab that stirred it up. Took one bite. Wish i hadn’t. I don’t know. It tasted like it was in somebody’s mouth at one point and then they gave me a side of something. That’s obviously not butter and garlic. it’s a dark liquid, but somethings laying in the bottom of it. I don’t really know what it is. I’m too scared to try it. . There have me also some black tar looking stuff. I don’t know what this is supposed to be. It’s very dry and I don’t know it kinda looks like dried raisin’s but smaller in-size and I’m not going to trying it. Extremely disappointed honestly want my money back the only thing I liked was the asparagus and that’s because I can actually eat those cold But that’s usually the next day and it’s out of the box that I bring home and put in the fridge. You know what I mean. I wouldn’t waste your money I mean, if they didn’t want to do the order they could’ve just told me that I specifically asked them if they could and I didn’t want to be a burden, but I should’ve known better. I had to go back and get the Tabasco and the steak sauce myself so it was even colder by the time I got back too. I forgot to mention that part just all over around terrible..

Had a terrific dinner for 4 on a Friday evening. Did make a reservation which was very easy. Service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I appreciate how they give space between each course. In our case appetizer, soup/salad, popover, and main course. Each comes out and they give you time enough to enjoy but not so long as you feel like you’re waiting for the next. Full bar for those who enjoy a cocktail but an atmosphere that kids would feel comfortable in. Well worth the trip or stay at the hotel and enjoy all the amenities. Will definitely return and would also recommend their back room for your next special event.

I’ve dined at Axels countless times. Consistently great service, food, and cocktails! Loved the walleye and old fashioned. Our server Paxton was great! Will be back!

We had such a wonderful experience here! From start to finish, everything flowed perfectly. Justin, our waiter, truly stood out — he was attentive, professional, and made us feel completely taken care of The timing of the meal was spot on. Our appetizers arrived right on time, followed by soup and salad, and then the entrées came out without any long waits or rushing. It was perfectly paced ️✨
My wine was absolutely delicious and paired beautifully with the meal I highly recommend trying the coconut shrimp as well as the shrimp linguine — both dishes were full of flavor and cooked just right And don’t skip the sauces! Be sure to try both the classic cocktail sauce and the orange dip — they’re each unique and equally tasty
Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience that I’d happily repeat!

The two servers I’ve had during my last two visits have been amazing. This last one really tried to accommodate my healthy diet. Their food is just standard. It’s too pricey for what they offer. That’s just my opinion. Great service and atmosphere.

Exceptional food quality, attentive service, and inviting atmosphere.
We ordered NY Strip Steak & and Grilled Salmon. The flavors in each dish were perfectly balanced, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh.

Mid-priced American food restaurant with lively atmosphere. Wait staff was attentive, but they really need two bartenders on weekends. The one on duty was clearly swamped but managed okay. The big disappointment was the food, primarily the steaks. There was no difference in how each steak was cooked, regardless of how it was ordered. Plus, all the food was served somewhere between cold and lukewarm. The sides had the potential to be really good, but cold food isn’t what we ordered. This place was busy on Saturday night but I can’t see that continuing if quality doesn’t improve.

We dined as a party of two, and although the restaurant was practically empty, we were seated at a table so small that the waiter had to place our popovers directly on our plates because the basket wouldn’t fit.
Our server, Nathan, was excellent—very attentive and accommodating. However, the food experience was mixed. The popovers were overbaked, and our soups came out before the appetizer, which disrupted the flow. On the plus side, the French onion soup was delicious.
For the appetizer, we had the Beef Bites, which were tender and well-seasoned. For our main dishes, I had the coconut shrimp, which were overfried yet somehow not overcooked, and my partner had the walleye. The fish tasted good, but the breading wasn’t crispy. Both dishes came with green beans, which were perfectly crispy but had a scorched flavor.
While there were some highlights, there were a few issues that detracted from the overall experience.
