We have been to the The Ship Inn twice as the food was great and the staff were helpful and welcoming. The first time we ordered the small fish n chips and grilled vegetables tagine. The second time we ordered the fried chicken with sriracha mayo and chicken katsu with curry. Delicious! The location is quite convenient not too far from where we were staying while visiting Chester. We will come back again before we leave for Thailand.
Update: For our third and last visit before leaving Chester, we ordered the sirloin steak and a pepperoni pizza. The food was well prepared and delicious.

There were a few little issues, but the staff were so attentive and sorted it out straight away…. and the food was delicious. I had a festive fishy Feast but had slight food envy over the Christmas Roasts

We came on a Sunday and had the garlic mushrooms starter, sirloin steak and Sunday roast (pork loin). The food was faultless, staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly. Some of the best service I’ve had in a long time! Would 100% recommend for anyone wanting good quality pub food. Thanks so much 🙂

I received a warm welcome as I popped in to the ship inn today. A very kind gentleman closely resembling Harry Hill even showed me to a fabulous upstairs seating area. This was perfect for a warm summers day as the breeze through the bifolds was most welcome.
The food came promptly and was home cooked. On Mondays it’s even half price!
A surprise find as I don’t often cross over the river. The Ship Inn is situated on the river Dee bridge. On this occasion I was walking but suspect there’s a small car park opposite. The ground floor is accessible and has a loo situated here for those with mobility or creaky knees you should be fine.
Nice beer lovely food and very welcoming staff I highly recommend and won’t leave it so long to cross the river next time!

We called in today Tuesday 6th January 2026 on recommendation from staff in café 46 in lower bridge st. We booked a table in the day in case they were busy due to a offer they had on today. The staff Jo and Matt were brilliant-friendly and polite, got a table by the roasting fire it’s lovely. We ordered mains the fillet steak and steak pie for the wife. They brought the food very quickly OMG they were so lovely and the taste makes it so enjoyable. Drinks lovely too. So I ordered a pudding the baileys and white chocolate cheesecake OMG so gorgeous. The only downside is that we couldn’t fit more drinks in (well a disarrano) ha ha. We are from Liverpool staying in the leonardo hotel so it’s not far. But we are going home tomorrow. But we are planning to bring the mother in law, because she loves home cooked food, as soon as possible ,it was that nice we will do it on a day visit and then go by the river wall. Just to let you toilet access for disabled as you go into the toilet it just there on your right brilliant access. We even got chatting to locals saying this is a great established to come to. We will return as soon as we can. Thanks again Jo and Matt , we hope the management pass on the this review they are credit to the Ship Inn. Thanks again from Jimmy and Maxine Taylor.

The girls took me there for my birthday a few days ago and we really had an amazing Sunday roast with celebrations and a view to die for!!! Surrounded by the park and overlooking the river, the vibe was so serene and quite a scenic place to spend my thirtieth birthday at. The hosts were extremely nice and accommodating. The food was great and the portions were extremely generous. Would love to go again one day for the scenery and food both!

What a lovely room upstairs. Quiet, cosy and ample, with comfortable chairs.
