This is a staple of Mexican food in this community. Usually spot-on. I am not sure but this visit was just off. The tortilla chips were warm, fresh and wonderful but the salsa was very mild/bland this time around… which is never the case so far in my experience here with numerous visits. I ordered chicken chimichangas. It was a colorful dish and presented excellent.

We dined here on a slow Monday night. I came in with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The decor, food, and service were great.
We ordered the quesadilla fundida which was a chicken quesadilla topped with chorizo and the burrito mexicano which was a beef tip burrito topped with melted cheese. Both were very well seasoned and high quality. The prices seem pretty affordable in my opinion.
The service was great. Our server came by often enough to check up on us. The food came out surprisingly quick. It could compete with ordering at a fast food joint but it might’ve been just a slower day.
I really enjoyed the decor in this restaurant. Everything is colorful and vibrant from the tables to the walls. Not a bland spot in sight.
I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking for a new mexican spot to try. Personally, this place is a bit of a drive for me but if I happen to be in the area again, I’ll for sure be going back.

One of my favorite restaurants! I come here often with my family or friends and we consistently get amazing service and food! El Canelo serves the best Mexican food in the Southtowns by FAR and one of the best in the region. When I travel, I miss it! I typically get the enchiladas supremas (all beef) and they’ve always been accommodating. The food always comes out steaming hot and fresh, their chips hot and salsa uniquely flavorful too.

Well I don’t want you make it more crowded but it’s my favorite place period. Its run by hard working people and the food is great.

Today was my first time ordering from here. Placing an order was easy. Picking up the food went smoothly. The reason for the two stars lies in the fact that the food wasn’t very tasty or likable. I order combination dinner #5 for my sister and I. The enchiladas was meh because it only had refined beans in them. The Spanish rice was also meh because it had no flavor. I think for right now I’m just going to stick with La Tolteca because La Tolteca includes more than just beans in their enchiladas and the sauce up top of La Tolteca’s enchiladas are delicious. But enough about La Tolteca, El Canelo’s food as a vegetarian wasn’t for my sister and I but it could be for you!

Love coming here whenever we have a Mexican food craving. They have so many options with and without meat. Horchata is in a large cup and they give you a big container if it’s to-go. Salsa is super tasty with their bottomless chips. The service is always great and would recommend stopping in.
