I ate my food before I could take photos. The service was top notch from the time of arrival to the very end and that made everything so much better. My server was attentive and kept my coffee refilled, he was a young male, I forgot his name (forgive me). I ordered half-order of pancakes, bone-in ham, scrambled eggs. Everything was flavorful, fresh, tasted like it was made with love. The bone-in ham was nostalgic from my younger days when my mom would make it. The bathroom had stickers of positive affirmations and that was sweet given it was Valentine’s Day weekend. I highly recommend for great service, delicious food, and wonderful atmosphere.

All we wanted was a good, quick breakfast spot and instead we were subjected to an absolutely great one. All jokes aside, Sweet Maple Cafe is a classic, quaint breakfast spot with great service and very good food. We arrived on a Friday morning with a party of 7 and were seated right away. They have both indoor and outdoor seating; we chose indoor and the setting was very homey and comforting. Street parking is the only option available so if you’re coming by car then be prepared to circle until you grab a spot. The menu is relatively standard aside from the fact that they offer specials depending on the day of the week.

We ordered the not-so-plain buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon, the catfish nuggets (Friday only special) with an egg and cinnamon raisin toast, and a raspberry latte. The pancakes? Soft and light. Not too thick but not paper thin, butter melted right into it and kept its flavor. Just the way we like pancakes. The bacon could’ve been a bit better as it was stiff but that’s a small miss apart from the main dish. The catfish nuggets were straight up phenomenal. The batter was light and the catfish was cooked perfectly. The eggs were cooked just as requested and hey, even the cinnamon raisin toast was pretty good. Lastly, the latte was great. Smooth and sweet, the syrup not too strong but sweet enough to taste it. A great pairing to any breakfast meal.

By the time we finished eating we were incredibly glad we had come into Sweet Maple Cafe. The food, service, and setting; all great. It pains me not to give this place a 5 because 5 should mean something that blows your mind from a taste and experience standpoint. This place is a great example of why reviews should allow for .5 or.1 intervals on rating because this place easily deserves much more than a 4, unfortunately we are limited by Product Engineers, but hey, maybe they’ll read this and make a change (yeah, right).

the place is walk-in only. we added our name to the waitlist and was told the wait would be about an hour. we came back in an hour to check on our table, and we’re told that we were next in line. while waiting, we saw other tables getting sat before us. after awhile, we checked in again and they mistakenly crossed our names off the list. to compensate, they gave us free drinks which was nice. in total, we waited about 1 1/2 hrs for our table. our server was nice, and our food came out relatively quick. the cinnamon roll pancakes were one of the best pancakes i’ve had. i got the egg and cheeser sandwich that wasn’t bad either. the biscuit wasn’t dry at all which is common in other biscuits. overall, the meal was delicious but wait times for a table can be long. not to mention, there was only street parking available which was hard to find. worth a try if you have time in the mornings to wait

The wait was short at 11:00am on a Sunday in July. The coffee was really good. The Cinnamon Roll pancake was delicious! It’s not on the menu, but it was on the chalkboard sign above the kitchen. My daughter had the 18th Street and said it was very good. Lots of different flavors. My husband had the Sweet Maple Special and said it was good. The home fries were really good. We would recommend this place to our friends going to Chicago.

A classic that never disappoints. Our favorite buttermilk pancake in the entire city. (Other than homemade)

We sat outside, in an open yet covered space in an enclosed screened in patio.

It was very comfortable and delicious.
