I found parking right in front of the door, zipped up my jacket (cold morning in January) and walked in. The restaurant is as cold as outside! They have the door to the nation’s wide open. I asked if they wanted it closed as I thought perhaps a customer left it propped open, but was told to please leave it alone. The woman behind the counter explained that if any customers were to eat outside and the door closed behind them it would lock, so they preferred to leave the door wide open. There was no one on the patio,
And it’s 46 degrees outside. This doesn’t make sense to me, but it’s not my restaurant. This in a nutshell really describes this place.
I proceeded to order my breakfast burrito with bacon crispy and a coffee. I also requested a side of their “secret” red sauce and their spiciest salsa, which turns out to be green, and left the counter to go find a table. My burrito arrived on a square plate, cut in half. On a personal note, I hate it when my burritos are cut in half. The structural integrity of the burrito wrap is entirely compromised, creating the opportunity of a burrito blowout.
I took a bite of the burrito as it was presented and it was underwhelming. The potato to egg ratio is to far off, there wasn’t enough cheese and the bacon was not at all crispy. The bacon thing really bugs me. It’s not hard to get crispy bacon off the flat top, not giving it to me was just lazy or the cook not reading the order. Flaccid, chewy bacon is not good in my opinion. The kind that pulls when you bite into it and sometimes leaves stringy fat strands behind. This is not how I wanted this experience to go.
The coffee was good. Tasted fresh and flavorful. The saving grace for the breakfast burrito was the two salsas. The Green Salsa is a bit on the watery side, is not really spicy, but does provide a great herbal flavor to an otherwise bland burrito. The Secret Red Sauce was a surprise for sure. It too is a bit watery, but has a flavor that is a cross between Middle School Cafeteria salsa and something Taco Bell would serve. It worked well with the burrito in a way that was a complete surprise to me. If it weren’t for the two salsas, I might have scored the food here lower than I have.
I feel like this place probably offers other items that may be better than I had. I’m not sure that I’ll have another opportunity to come out this way again and even if I do, there are too many other competing food options for me to really want to come back here to Eat Fantastic and try something else.
I asked whether I should get the Sandwich Club or the GOAT and wow did she recommend the GOAT over everything! Said she doesn’t even like burgers but she’d eat this one. Super yummy! Large size, no fries needed.
