The food is true Mexican cuisine and not Tex Mex their menu has dozens of options.
This has been a Staple in wheatRidge for as long as I can remember.
Service is very friendly and fast, food is good and portions are large. Every Sauce has its own unique flavor and texture. Prices are reasonable and not overly priced. I would recommend this Gem of a restaurant.
I will preference the rest by saying I lived in Texas most of my life and have been to Mexico many, many times. I lean toward Tex-mex and authentic Mexican. I feel strongly that fresh flour tortillas make or break the taste of Mexican food . I’ve been in search of my “go-to” Mexican restaurant since we moved to Colorado two years ago.
Unfortunately this isn’t it. Perhaps we didn’t order the right things. The margarita tasted like a powered mix. The queso was so stringy, it was almost impossible to eat. The chips broke as you tried. Super sorry to say this but the tortillas tasted as if they were store bought and did not taste fresh.
The fish tacos were average to me. The fish tasted fresh though. Their guacamole was excellent.
The decor is really nice and the staff were super nice. We went right at 5 pm on a Tuesday so it was not crowded
If we try it again and find it is better, I will revise my review.
La Fonda has a comprehensive multi-page menu with just about any type of Mexican food you can think of. The prices are reasonably gentle on your wallet and the service was speedy but not pushy. We ate a relaxed lunch with several check-ins from our server along with beverage refills.
I had the La Fonda burrito while others had street tacos and enchiladas. Everything was tasty with good presentation. The burrito was gigantic. The good part was that it wasn’t too heavy. It had a lighter quality that didn’t drop to the bottom of your stomach like some burritos I’ve had.
There seemed to be ample parking in the parking lot for lunch too. So often it seems like you have to circle a block several times to find a parking spot in the Denver metro area these days.
I highly recommend La Fonda for quality Mexican fare with good service.
It had very little flavor
And I was there with my girlfriend and we wanted to try the flan and it was the only dessert they ran out of .
And they messed up my girlfriends order and just brought an extra plate with the correction…
It was our 1st time there and sadly our last .
Was not a very good 1st time experience .
