We’ve come here many times before shows at the Benedum and always considered it a reliable, higher-quality spot. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had here and likely our last visit.
While we understand Friday nights are busy and tried to give some grace, the food issues pushed this experience over the edge. My family friend ordered a filet, and when it arrived it was clearly misshapen packed together and folded. When we unfolded it at the table, it looked nothing like a filet. When we showed this to the server, the response was essentially, “Oh, I’m sorry,” with no attempt to resolve the issue or offer a solution, despite us explaining we were on a time constraint.
The rest of the food was equally disappointing. The blackened mahi-mahi was not blackened at all, bland, under-seasoned, and lacking flavor. The broiled seafood was similarly uninspired. Everything came out lukewarm rather than hot, which added to the sense that the kitchen was rushing plates rather than focusing on quality.
What was most disappointing is that this place used to feel special, consistent, flavorful, and worth the pre-theater stop. This visit felt rushed, careless, and far below the standard we’ve experienced here in the past. Between the service issues, food quality, and lack of concern when problems were raised, it’s hard to justify coming back.

This restaurant is very nice. Classy in looks and features. Was a little dark. The music was really out of place. The room we were sat had a giant TV. When the adverts would switch the lighting changed dramatically. Was distracting.
The food was fantastic. Hot and steamy. Major flavor. Serving portion was adequate. The flavors were prevalent. Servuce staff was promptt and to the point. I’d go back for sure.

We went to McCormick & Schmick’s as part of the winter Pittsburgh Restaurant Week and had a good experience. We went on a Sunday evening after a symphony performance, and we had a reservation, but there weren’t many people at the restaurant (snow could have been a contributing factor).
The food was delicious and the steak cooked perfectly, but for the price that we paid, I’m not sure it was completely worth it, given that the steak was really the only stand out part of the meal. The fries did have a delicious topping, I would want more of it. Nothing else was bad, just not very noteworthy given the price and fanciness of the restaurant. My husband did say that the crème brûlée had a very thick caramelized sugar topping and not much custard in comparison, so the ratio made it a bit disappointing.
The restaurant is DARK. Very low lighting, and it can throw you off- I thought my steak was very underdone at first because of the lighting, but I pulled out my phone flashlight and it was perfect.
The service was terrific and very on top of everything.

This was our first time at McCormick & Schmick’s. We saw the menu for PGH restaurant Week and decided this was the place to try! The food it not disappoint! The steak was done to perfection and the seafood Alfredo was a hit! We did have a few allergies at the table and the staff were very attentive with that! We are definitely putting this restaurant on our go-to list!

Went to M&S’s for an early Valentine’s Day celebration. It was our first time there. Robin was our server. She was fantastic! Helped us navigate the menu and answered any questions we had. Was super attentive to us as well!
Food was phenomenal too! We had no complaints at all, every bite was excellent!

Dined here recently and had a great experience. Our server was very nice and helpful, food was very good as were the drinks! Atmosphere was romantic and cozy. Make reservations because I’m sure they get busy during prime dining hours. Highly recommend making a stop here if in Pittsburgh!

We decided late to go out on New Years Eve and very few restaurants had reservations between 7-8pm. This restaurant had an 8pm and while I am usually hesitant to eat at chain restaurants, this one was surprisingly good. I had the bone-in pork chop, which I rarely get when dining out, and it was superb. My husband and friends were also pleased with their meals. The atmosphere was just ok. We were seated near the kitchen; unpleasant with all the comings and goings. Atmosphere away from the kitchen is probably just fine. The service was ok. Our waiter did not check in with us for more than 5 minutes after we sat down. He also did not touch base with us during our meals even though he was going by frequently. Toward the end of our meal, he became more accessible. The prices were great! Much better than any other high-end chains such as Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, etc.

The staff is excellent. My family and I worked with Kaitlyn, catering manager, as we planned a large family gathering at the Pittsburgh restaurant in February 2026. She was easy to work with. She responded to all my call and emails. She helped curate the menu items, room set up and overall of the event feel. We had several dietary restrictions on top of at least half of our guests being vegetarian. On the day of our event Laitlyn was home sick but still checked in with us personally, to make sure all the final details were just the way we wanted them. Then the wait staff was excellent!! We had table service for everything. We did not want a buffet and so the day of Ms. Paus, another manager with the restaurant along with seven, and at times eight, servers made my family and friends feel like royalty. Kaitlyn even made arrangements with her general manager to be available in the morning, several hours before the dinner, to receive a delivery of our room and table decorations. The general manager, the server staff and Ms. Paus had the room completely perfect for when my family and I arrived. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. Portions were so large that many of my family members ended up taking home parts of their dinners home. The desserts were an ideal way to end a perfect dinner. I would highly recommend McCormick and Schmick’s in Pittsburgh to anyone celebrating a special occasion or enjoying a date night or to anyone who just wants a great place to enjoy great food and excellent service!! Also, one of our family members uses a wheelchair chair and he had no problems entering the restaurant or getting around the room or the space in general. I do not normally write reviews but the people were and are so great that I just needed to let others know!

I took my family here for a Christmas dinner. I thought it would be a nice change. Britney was our server and she did an amazing job. But the kitchen staff was a mess. I had called ahead and gave everyone the menu before hand, they even had a Christmas special on the menu. Once we got there we all pretty much knew what we wanted. Two family members wanted the pork special and others wanted the steak. After placing our order and over 30mins later the waitress comes out to tell us that they are out of pork chops. First of all the Manager should have told us not the waitress and second why wouldn’t you let your staff know way before hand so they can be informed not wait until the time the food should be served. We continued to wait for over an hour an hour and our food still wasn’t done. The 2 of us who ordered a steak were wondering what happened to our food and the child’s food was almost done because they had brought that out 30 mind ago. Hoping that our steaks were not sitting under the warming lamps I finally had enough so went to the front to ask for the manager who was Dan. I explained that the child is almost done with their food, we’ve been waiting over an hour, they messed up on not telling us about the pork chops until 30mins after we ordered it, other people our getting their food it seems before us who got there after us and not to mention about the manager never coming over to speak to us. I did also explain Britney our waitress is great and did everything she could. So Dan said that he will find out what’s going on with our food. Just as I went back over to the table I see the waitress coming out with our food. Just as they walked away we started eating, now because of the menu everyone got steaks ( 1 medium rare, 2 medium and 1 well done ( and we asked for it butterfly’d) but instead we all got rare and the one not butterfly’d, plus not to mention 2 of the plates of food was cold. So the manager came over and I explained all this to him. He apologized and asked if we wanted new ones I said yes but I hope it doesn’t take another 2 hours. He said it wouldn’t. So about 20 mins later the food finally came out right and tasted very good. They did finally turn things around and Dan (the manager) and Britney (the waitress)both very well to get our food right.. Thank you
