We had such a wonderful time at this Chinese buffet with the family. There were so many options that everyone found something they loved. Everything we tried was fresh, tasty, and the buffet was always filled with hot food. For what you pay, it’s really great value. Definitely a spot we’d happily come back to again!

We popped into Shanghai Shanghai after a couple of drinks – and let me tell you, it was the best decision of the night!
The buffet delivered exactly what we needed: loads of flavour, generous meat options, sushi, noodles, spring rolls – you name it! After two plates full of deliciousness, we couldn’t even remember we had been drinking. Magic? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely.
The food is always fresh, the variety is great, and the vibe is relaxed. Bonus points for Tsingtao beers that perfectly matched the meal.
If you’re looking for a place that never disappoints (especially when you’re hungry and slightly tipsy), Shanghai Shanghai is the spot.

The evening buffet is more expensive, but it’s a much larger selection of dishes.
On our most recent visit was an afternoon buffet so most of the options were chicken. Ideal for me, mind.
A couple of plates of food did me grand and the buffet style allows me the opportunity to try new dishes.
I throughly enjoyed the chilli chicken on this occasion.
Like many venues the drinks can work out quite expensive, especially soft drinks.
We’ve never had to queue for a table, and have pre booked if we’ve been going as a large group.

No fuss restaurant in Carlisle, across the road from Spoons. Excellent value for money, particularly for a Chinese buffet. Plenty of choice. Rice, Chow mein, spare ribs, the list goes on, and on. Pint of coke around £3. Will definitely visit again next time in town.

In buffet style! Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful clearing used plates ready for next course. We loved trying different dishes prawns chicken ribs and beef! Eat as much as you wish! Do try you will not be disappointed

Grim. Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy!
Especially avoid if you have any food allergies as there is no allergen information, food is mislabelled (or labels out for food that isn’t even there) and thrown on top of each other (chicken in with prawn crackers / different types of noodles in same pot). We had to guess that if the label text was green it meant vegetarian, but there was clearly beef in a chow mean that had a green label so maybe not.
Most of the food was undercooked or seemed reheated, and most of it lacked flavour. Genuinely felt the salad bar was the best section.
You pay on arrival and get charged more for ‘wastage’ than you do for your meal! We had half a plate of ‘wastage’ because it was simply inedible, but we weren’t charged which is the only good thing that happened in this place. Drink prices were a rip off – £3 for a can of pop.
Tables are too close together so kept getting knocked by people walking to / from table behind, which also meant staff couldn’t get around to clear tables.
Only one member of staff showed any kind of enthusiasm / personality but, to be fair, if I worked there I wouldn’t either.

I like to think of my self as a connoisseur when it comes to Chinese buffets and I was excited to try the offerings from Shanghai, Shanghai. The venue is located conveniently on a busy High Street in Carlisle next to the ibis hotel, The service from the host was very good and the pricing structure was reasonable considering the time of day (we went at a premium dining time where they’re like to refer to this as the grand buffet) I was a little disappointed that they had no duck on offer, but this is probably something to do with the premiums associated with the cost of duck. Everything else was very tasty – the sweet and sour chicken was excellent and the rice offerings were also very good quality. The ribs were disappointing- although the salt and pepper ribs were good. The desserts were ok, but i would like to have seen more on offer for the £16 price tag.
Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff very good, all in all a very pleasant dining experience but I have had better.

Buffet is fine. As i am from india i prefer less sauce in food. And also bit spicy. Otherwise its a good option once in a while. Enough space and clean and neat area. Good staff’s, friendly behavior
