Look, pal. Nothing really beats a hole in the wall pub. I’m a little huss for some good down to earth bar food, ask my mum. Situated on a corner where two roads meet, this place has all the fixin’s of a place with stuff on the walls. Classic hole in the wall pub decor, classic hole in the wall pub tables and chairs. It’s one of this places where when you walk in, you’re there. Locals, strangers, friends, enemies, lovers. They’re all there. So come on in, pull up a stool, and let’s get down to business.

I will say service was great. I may be a little biased as the waitress said I was the only one in her section. But I’m going to instead assume it’s because I’m such an amazing patron. Hilarious and handsome to boot. Or at least the hilarious part.

Hokay. So. As much as I’m a huss for bar food, I’m even hussier for wings. So, naturally I ordered the wings. Bone in, as god intended. Buffalo sauce, as Darwin intended. They came perfectly saucy, perfectly temperatured, and perfectly in a little bowl kind of thing. They were meaty and juicy. Loved the flavor. I would eat my body weight in them, and my body weight is not small numbers.

I kept the main course simple. Half pound burger, deluxe (lettuce, mayo, tomato, onion). Added mustard. Ketchup’s on the table. Then as my side I got the sidewinder fries which are kind of like spiral potato wedges.

The burger was pretty decent. The size was good, but the flavor was a little underwhelming. I’m pretty sure the patty was one of those pre-made deals that come in packages. I could be wrong, but that’s just what it looked like. Regardless, if I had ordered a burger that was more of a specialty, there might have been more flavor involved. The fries though were pretty good. They’re thiccc. Thick fries save lives.

I have been here before, a couple times, and would certainly come back as their menu does have a wide variety of food. Don’t be bashful.

Creationism wings: 10/10
Burger WOW factor: 6/10
Chonky potato wedge spiral fries: 10/10

The most redeeming quality of this place is the price. Everything is very affordable. With that out of the way, the quality of the food is very poor. Likely directly from GFS or Sysco. My burger was criminally under-seasoned. It just tasted like a puck of ground beef. Wife’s Ruben was 70% sour kraut with hardly any meat. Will not be coming back despite the good prices.

This place is a hidden gem. It is in the middle of a neighborhood off of the main strip but close to the beach. The boasted chicken is the best thing on the menu. It is very crispy, has lots of flavor, and is moist and flavourful to the bone. The mashed potatoes are just mediocre. We also had the clams, which were great. There is a full bar and a few local brews on tap. The bar seats around 20. The restaurant seats around 40-50. We were greeted when we arrived and got a seat right away. I would say that is not a normal thing because while there, it got much busier and a wait. The bathrooms are very small and one person only. There is no air conditioning, so it was a little warm in there. The server Day, was very polite and attentive. The parking lot is behind the building (gravel) and has plenty of spots. There are no designated handicapped spots for parking. There is a step to get into the building and the door is maybe 36″.
I would definitely go back and try other menu items.

Amazing. What a gem, right off US 31, so if you’re going up north that way it’s an ideal stop for lunch. Great frontier saloon vibes. Had the smoked pork and eggs.

Love this place. Great food, fair prices. Only reason for 4 stars is the last 2 times I’ve ordered my steak and eggs breakfast there has been a $3 charge and says hash browns. Hash browns are supposed to be included as stated on the menu. Not sure why this has happened twice. I’ll bring it up to my server next time. But besides that, zero complaints!

Stopped for lunch. The menu looked like their were many food items. I wasn’t really hungry and decided on chicken fingers. They came out a light golden brown and were moist. Many places fry them way longer than needed. My wife and daughter had a BLT, and they wete full when finished. The saloon is one of the oldest in Manistee, and it’s located in what was a vibrant polish community. Their was plenty of seating and a nice large bar for the locals. It’s not a place for wheelchairs. You have to step up at the entrance. All in all, it’s a worthy spot for a meal, and we prefer to support a mom & and pops eatery.
