Our food was great. Highly recommend and worth the drive.
I had the grilled meatloaf with a loaded baked potato. Something about the meatloaf did not agree with me. It was dry and tasted like burger and tomato paste. I actually put my mashed potatoes on top to give it some flavor. I wasn’t a fan. The loaded baked potato was pretty skimpy. They put a piece of bacon in the center and a piece of sliced American cheese. I didn’t get sour cream with it either.
I do have to say that I am a fan of their cornbread muffins. I like southern cornbread, not sweet cornbread. My husband and kids are totally opposite. They like sweet cornbread muffins.
My nephew ordered the chicken and dumplings with fries and macaroni and cheese. He did not like the flavor of the chicken and dumplings. He liked the fries and macaroni and cheese though. He said that was the best macaroni and cheese he’s had in a while. My granddaughter also liked the macaroni and cheese a lot. She ordered the kids macaroni and cheese with macaroni and cheese as her side.
My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. He ordered his with lettuce, mayonnaise, and ketchup. He said his burger was a little dry and it wasn’t medium. He liked his fries and the rolls we received with dinner.
Another member of our party had the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich with potato salad. She’s ate at the Cookie Jar Cafe many times over the years. She always orders the same sandwich because she likes the flavor so much. She said her chicken was full of flavor and the breading was really crunchy.
My granddaughter and my uncle both ordered a slice of strawberry pie. They both really liked it. My granddaughter was raving over the huge strawberries on the pie. They could only eat half of their slices of pie because it was so rich. They took them home and ate them for a late night snack.
We also bought other desserts to go. We bought a regular brownie, two brownies topped with cookie dough, and a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. The brownies were cut into large pieces. My niece cut hers in half because it was too rich to eat all at once. My husband ate them for a cupcake and said the frosting was delicious.
The views from the porch and the windows were beautiful. It was of the mountains. The waitress was very nice and patient with us. She did offer a few suggestions when we were undecided. She was also very attentive and filled our glasses and mugs when they were low.
Portion was more than enough, I took home enough for lunch. Highly recommend
The only real fuss was that they were out of many dishes and desserts as well. But hey, ” if ya snooze ya lose,” …we stopped there pretty late on our way home after visiting the Chattanooga area
They had obviously had a busy day, and the parking lot was still full when we arrived at around 6:45 pm .
The rocking chair porch view was priceless. The petting zoo and play area made the ending of our day so special.
Thank you, waitress, who patiently listened to my 6 year old grandson try to get the words together to ask if you cut your own fries… he obviously thought you did.
We appreciate our experience and would definitely go there again.
Staff was super friendly and efficient although I think they need a dedicated table busser instead of servers doing it.
Main meal was not bad but not great. Of what we ordered at the table the salad, BBQ and hamburger was fine. Green beans were bland and watery, biscuits were dry, french fries were over cooked and dry.
Desert, however, was fantastic. We had the coconut pie and peanut butter tort. Delicious.
I counted 120 cookie jars (but no cookies were being sold oddly).
Would recommend but probably just a one time deal for this tourist.
Came here on a Friday for lunch, and we were quoted about a 30 minutes wait. We didn’t mind waiting but for those that have zero patience, you might want to call ahead. The hostess was really sweet and waiting was a breeze because of the porch, the outdoor seating, and all the farm animals and playground. Great spot for families!
