We have ordered many things from here and haven’t been disappointed. This is my son’s favorite bakery. He loves their German chocolate cake. He has gotten 2 this year for his 16th bday. We love their cookies, and petifores are delicious.

We were close by here when we visited the Monastery of St. Clare so we stopped by for bakery treats after the 6:15 am Mass. Everything was great! Such a treat!

Recently, my family visited Federhofer’s Bakery while on a long weekend trip to St. Louis. We had a great trip and especially enjoyed the food! BBQ at Pappy’s, Floats and root beer at Fitz’s. One of the last St. Louis foods we wanted to try was gooey buttercake. Unfortunately, we picked a Sunday to look for an open bakery. Federhofer’s Bakery was open and had good reviews. Being a well established bakery in town, we thought this place would be as great as all the other local places we tried. We were wrong. As a reviewer said earlier, you walk in and are expected to get a ticket (even though it was not very busy and there was an abundance of staff). No one greeted us, told us to get a ticket or even acted like they saw us (there were 4 of us and a total of maybe 11 people in the entire bakery at the time). We stood there 10 minutes wondering if we would be helped…wondering if we should leave. Finally, one employee asked whose ticket # was next and we realized we had to get a ticket. Less than a minute after getting our ticket, an employee addressed us to take our order. I started to tell her that we were from out of town and wanting buttercake but unsure where it was (minimal labeling in this place). I could tell she did not care much for conversation or for being helpful as she dryly pointed to the butter cake below her. The “original” gooey butter cake was not out, so she quickly went to the back to get one out of the freezer. We weren’t excited that we were getting frozen cake but, at this point, we felt unwelcome and were starting to regret that we had walked in at all…but it was our last day in town and all our first choice bakeries were closed so we paid for our frozen cake from the unfriendly employee and left. An hour later, when the butter cake thawed, we were as disappointed with it as we thought we might be from our bad experience in the bakery. It didn’t taste fresh and the crust left something to be desired.

Our overall impression: the employees don’t enjoy their job and this place relies on its long, established history and not customer service or freshness. Everywhere else we went in St. Louis, people were wonderful, helpful and friendly…apparently that has not caught on at Federhofer’s…at least not on this particular Sunday.

We would not go back.

If you are looking for a company that will go above and beyond to service the customer, it’s not Federhofers. I tried to place a sale for over 1000.00 today for cakes for a church anniversary. They refused to deliver a three tier cake and sheets cakes to serve 650 people. The manager and two regular sales associates stood and didn’t give a dam about making my sale. Ladies, one day the sales of your small business is going to decline. You reap what you sow. You’re not nurturing future business and good will. Your a bunch of tired sales associates that what to do minimum and collect a check. I just can’t believe you would rather stand and sell a donut or two, yet show me the door over a 1000.00 plus order. I will never do business with you again. Poor crabby sales associates that have gotten to secure in their boots. I hope the owner reads this. You need a new manager and happy associates.
I’ll bring balloons when you close your doors.

Always always absolutely amazing bakery delicious gooey butter cake donuts are phenomenal service absolutely horrible. The women in there I don’t know if they hate their jobs. Hate themselves or just hate people.
Very rarely, can I go in and have someone be courteous or happy to see a customer. The bakery quality is definitely still worth it. I still go, but I really wish you would hire nicer people.

Walking into this place For the first time in literally longer than I can remember, made me realize just how amazing this bakery is. I have a fairly strong sweet tooth, and it takes a lot of discipline to deny it, this place made that about 10 times harder by existing lol. Every single item made here looks and smells amazing. The staff is extraordinarily friendly as well as helpful, and the cake that I actually special ordered went beyond even my expectations. They do a perfect black forest cake in case anyone wants to know. As far as baked goods go, they will have my business from here on out!

I’ve placed two orders now for a loved one’s birthday. A German chocolate cake, pistachio macaroons, and a Oreo cake. All delicious!!! The staff are so kind but specifically Amanda helped me with a last minute (day before) order for my brother! Not only will I be back for my birthday cake but I will highly recommend this bakery to anyone.

Thank you for all you do

This bakery is an absolute gem! I recently discovered this delightful shop and was blown away by the incredible selection of baked goods. The display cases were a feast for the eyes with rows of tempting cookies, cakes, cupcakes, macaroons, and more.
I was sold on the gooey butter cake, It was my first time trying one and let me tell you, it was pure bliss! The perfect balance of sweet and buttery, with a semi firm cake and a pleasant gooeyness that was simply irresistible.
Their donuts were also fantastic – fresh, fluffy, and with a variety of delicious flavors. I have plans on returning in the near future. Customer service was awesome as well!

Lordy my favorite locally-owned bakery that has so many baked goods in house or if you need to order your goodies. Every holiday you can enjoy their sugar cookies with icing or gingerbread cookies or assorted cookies by the pound. Ladies are always warm and welcoming along with very friendly to everyone. This time I was picking up some gingerbread cookies for a friend whose bakery doesn’t bake them anymore for the holiday. While I was at it I picked up a few iced sugar cookies too haha! If you never been to this bakery get your buns on over there to find out what your missing out on locally!
Big Shout to the ladies for always being so upbeat! Support your locally-owned businesses to keep them in our communities.
