I had no idea what I was walking into but was pleasantly surprised. I had a hand made chicken pot pie and a couple vegetables. The pot pie was amazing. Then as a bonus, they gave me a free cheesecake. Too much food, and completely reasonably priced.

As a long time MCL customer, there is not much surprise left at this point. The salads are fresh, the vegetables tend to be overcooked, the entrees are predictable but not bad, the desserts are impressive and the prices are on the high side.

To my mild surprise, the service was very good today. As my wife put it, the staff seemed “invested” and not just fishing for tips. I had a similarly positive reaction to the service.

The decor and atmosphere is what it is, which is not much. Be careful of the somewhat uneven floor if you go into the secondary dining area. WiFi is functional.

Pro Tip
The secondary room is pretty cold, the main dining room is pretty warm, so choose accordingly. Don’t expect to be extraordinarily comfortable, either way!

The food was sooooo salty. Definitely cafeteria food. I havent been to an MCL in many years. So decided to go and it was a let down. The people were extremely friendly and kept the refills coming, it was just the food. I got a stuffed chicken breast. But, it wasnt stuffed it was sitting on top of stuffing which I do not care for. Mac and cheese was dry but the green beans were delicious. The peanut butter cheesecake was decent. And the deviled eggs were the fake kind.

We’ve been coming to this restaurant for years. This visit was horrible I don’t know if they are short staffed, but the food station was nasty… the food was dried out an over cooked. The staff was very inviting, and one person was behind the food counter. I came in for the special Chopped Steak… normally it’s served with beef..gravy.. mushrooms and onions.. Saturday all she had out was a lump of meat. I asked the server for the rest of the ingredients which are onions.. mushrooms and gravy…She laughed so hard at me and said ” oh you want it “fancy” huh..welp this ain’t that”.… Follow the recipe…$10 for a lump of dried out meat!!!!!!!!….. Nope food too high to be playing with folk money.

Tasty home style cooked meals at a reasonable price. Personnel there are happy to help and attentive. Had fried chicken, the Monday special, and it was moist and crispy. Would definitely go back again.

This place has a special feel of respect to me. It’s always so quiet and the atmosphere is perfect for a group setting. I usually pop in and get the fresh food made daily that is sooooo good. If you haven’t had that friend chicken get there it is amazing. I also recommend you leave room for a fancy dessert with plenty to choose from. I used a coupon today for free pie so I went with pecan pie wow, wow, wow, it left me speechless. This place is so local and has convenient parking. It’s a must stop in if near the east side of town.

Absolutely fantastic cafeteria style dinner. All the food was great, there were too many options to choose from. Very friendly staff with minimal to no wait even during the lunch rush hour when everyone and there brother shows up (wich is a pretty good indication of their food). I wish there were more places like this one.

The staff here is super nice, it feels good knowing my elderly parents are taken care of here. Food could use a little more taste and kinda pricey. But service is top notch

My husband and I visited MCL on 10th and Arlington today after church, excited to grab some of our favorite comfort food to go. We walked in smiling and in great spirits, ready for a good experience—especially because we genuinely love the chicken dinners here.

Unfortunately, our visit took a disappointing turn almost immediately. The young lady assisting us seemed visibly irritated the moment we stepped up to order. There was no greeting, no warmth—just a dry, almost exasperated tone as she asked, “Do you want bread or something to drink?” We politely declined the bread and said yes to the drinks. When she handed us the tea, the lid wasn’t secured, which caused some of it to spill. We didn’t complain—we simply placed it on the tray and kept moving forward, trying to stay positive.

When we asked about dessert, her energy shifted even further. She looked at us like we’d asked her to go bake it from scratch. The expression on her face, the slowness of her movement, and the total lack of care made us feel like we were a burden. At that point, I asked her directly if she was having a bad day, and her response was, “I’m just trying to do my job.” We had spent over $50 and left feeling not only disappointed but disrespected.

The only bright spot came when I spoke with the manager, Carmen, who was kind and apologetic. She offered a meal card as a gesture of goodwill, which I appreciated. But the truth is, by the time I got to the car and my husband said he no longer wanted the food, I was relieved—because I didn’t either. He went back in, returned the food, and offered the card back. Carmen insisted we keep it, which was generous.

What hurt the most was hearing the original employee say, “I gave them everything they asked for.” My husband calmly responded, “It was your service.”

And that’s exactly it—sometimes it’s not about the food. It’s about how you’re treated while receiving it. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad taste that no good chicken could fix. We won’t be returning.
