I stopped at this Big Bob Gibsons for dinner while in the Decatur area. This is not my first Big Bob Gibson’s rodeo as I’ve eaten at the thier 6th Avenue location. The Danville location is more of a satellite location, still serving up the same quality and consistency as the 6th Avenue location, but if you looking for Big Bob’s merch then this isn’t the place. The 6th Avenue location has the books, all the sauces and rubs, the gift baskets and the other Big Bob’s merch. The Danville location only had some sauces and one of the rubs, so be warned. Now to the food, I ordered a rib plate with a side of brisket. My Barbecue sides were greens and red potato salad. The meat was cooked as Bob’s always makes it, juicy. smoky and good. The sides were very good as well. The staff were great, and they helped me to select the rib plate and the side of brisket and I was not disappointed. One thing you will get from Big Bob Gibson’s locations is great barbecue at a very reasonable price.
The place was clean. The service was great. Monica G took great care of us. Definitely a repeatable experience in Decatur, AL.
When I pulled into the drive-through, the man in front of me was helped quickly, and there wasn’t much traffic — one car ahead, no one behind, and only a few people inside. But when it was my turn, no one ever took my order. I waited patiently, assuming maybe the speaker hadn’t registered my car. After about five minutes, I even backed up and pulled forward again to try to re-trigger it. I asked a few times whether I should go ahead and order or pull around, but after nearly ten minutes of silence (and a line forming behind me), I finally drove inside to order. As soon as I pulled away, I saw the car behind me being greeted immediately.
Inside, when I went to place my order a woman who I’m assuming was a manager was behind the counter. I asked whether there was something I needed to do to trigger the order system. She told me I just needed to get in line, but when I explained what had happened, she seemed unconcerned and even a little irritated that I’d asked. From that point forward, I felt dismissed and talked down to — as if I were being difficult rather than simply confused about what had gone wrong. I could also hear two younger employees saying it wasn’t their fault and that I “hadn’t really been in the line,” which was disheartening.
I want to emphasize that I make every effort to be polite in situations like this. I work with people every day, and I completely understand that things happen, systems malfunction, and employees have bad days. I wasn’t upset — just hoping for a brief apology or some acknowledgment of the wait. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed and brushed off.
I truly hope this feedback reaches management and that some attention is given to customer communication and empathy at this location. The 6th Avenue team always makes me feel welcome, and I hope this store can rise to the same standard 🙂
Best parts:
The sweet tea and Mac & Cheese were amazing!!
The prize was fantastic!
Could of been better:
The chicken on my sandwich was a bit dry.
The worst:
The bun the sandwich is served on lacks any flavor and super dry which takes away from everything else on it.
