First time eating here. Ordered from brunch menu and wasn’t disappointed. Homemade waffle light and fluffy that melts in your mouth topped with blueberry sauce. Father ordered chicken gravy and biscuit. Gravy is the best I have ever put in my mouth. Highly recommend!

Very nice place near stadium. The chicken and waffles were delicious as were the home fries. I was surprised by their wide selection of drinks as well…even piña coladas. Our server, Karen, was wonderful and very sweet, and we were greeted with a smile by all. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area, too. We will definitely return next time we’re in Blacksburg.

**Highlight: They gave me and another pregnant woman alcohol in our syrup without telling us**
This was the absolute worst breakfast place I’ve ever been to. Everything tasted like food you would get at a high school concession stand. The potatoes they use are frozen which is insane because potatoes are one of the cheapest and easiest foods to make at a restaurant. The breakfast bowl was entirely drowning in a disgusting amount of what tasted like nacho cheese. It was basically 40% crappy frozen potatoes, 40% nacho cheese, a few soggy chunks of bacon and eggs for $16. The breakfast plate came with half of a waffle and syrup that tasted *so* strongly of alcohol – come to find out there is bourbon in the syrup, and I’m pregnant. The couple sitting behind us the woman was also pregnant and they also complained about the syrup tasting strongly of alcohol. Turns out they have regular syrup, but apparently were out and didn’t say anything and gave us both the bourbon syrup instead! They claimed that there is only one shot of bourbon per batch, but that batch must be small because the alcohol was *so* strong in the syrup, my husband could even smell it from the plate before trying it. This was so incredibly negligent. I really cannot believe how terrible this place is.

We had a great experience at this new restaurant! Chris, our server, was absolutely wonderful—so welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is also fantastic, with a warm and inviting vibe that really adds to the dining experience. The food was okay—nothing bad, but not quite as impressive as the service or ambiance. Overall, it’s a lovely spot, especially if you’re looking for a place with great energy and friendly staff.

Our server Karen (the good kind) was amazing!! She checked on us regularly. She made sure everything came out in a timely manner, asked how we liked our food. Always greeted us with a smile and was very cordial and informative. She provided excellent recommendations and just made our l first time experience feel like visiting a family member in their home.

Mimosa Flight:
Pineapple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice
The mimosas are true to their names. I definitely tasted the cranberries.

Homemade mashed potatoes taste like buttery garlic potatoes, and the homemade mac & cheese has a small Cajun flavor to it which was nicely done and very cheesy.

The Ribs really do fall off the bone, tender and juicy and smothered in barbecue. I will admit the barbecue tasted a little store-bought, but not bad.

Waffles have a nice crunchy texture to them and the bourbon maple syrup offers a sweet and bold flavor posing perfectly with the waffles.

The Cornbread tastes like cake, very fluffy with a nice course texture to it.

The food here is an inspired and contemporary interpretation of classic dishes set in a spacious and upbeat atmosphere. There is something here for everyone making this place an easy destination for any occasion. Our server Autumn did an awesome job taking our order and getting our meals out quickly. Looking forward to coming back again!

We dined during the Blacksburg soft opening. Our server, Matt, was very knowledgeable on the menu. The hush puppies, served with honey butter, were fantastic! We had the catfish po boy with a side of Mac n cheese and The Hatch handheld with a side of whipped sweet potato. Both were excellent, with the whipped sweet potato being the standout with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The bar area looked very nice, and the outdoor seating area is very cute with table seating, lit umbrellas, and a a tabletop fire pit.

Overall, the place was okay. We went during their opening weeks, so they’re still finding their rhythm. The portion sizes were fair for the price, though it could be slightly more affordable. The food was decent, the chicken gravy was overly salty (but definitely an innovative take on gravy!), and the biscuits were a bit undercooked. The fried chicken had a nice breading-to-meat ratio but was on the dry side. We also tried the waffle sliders, and that chicken was much better cooked. The side of potatoes, however, was also dry.

Service was friendly and polite, though they checked on us a few too many times. Our food arrived warm and within a reasonable wait. Overall, not a bad experience, we’d be open to trying it again once they’ve had more time to settle in.

The service was amazing with Chad as our waiter. The selection of food was great even for kids. It had such great flavoring and reminds me of amazing southern cuisine. So excited to have a place like the hatch in Blacksburg. We will definitely be recommending it to others.

Checked them out during soft launch weekend. I got the creamy blackened salmon and he got the chicken fried chicken. He’s got a shellfish allergy, and they have a dedicated fryer strictly for the shellfish, so everything on the menu is safe! Creole style, not too spicy, everything was so good. Kurt was attentive and an excellent introduction to the new restaurant. We’ll definitely be coming back.
