Another hit wa the lemon-dill salmon. It was perfection! Everybody was super nice, and the village was really cute and had a good vibe.
Maybe I have been spoiled by LA dining but I was expecting a bit more of local southwest inspiration here maybe just because of the location and vibe.
Had the philly mushroom sandwich which was good but no South West soup or chips/salsa …I don’t know
Wanted to like it more for the food but in the end I just found the food average but maybe even though it’s located in a nice area maybe they are trying to have something for everyone..
Lunch or brunch sitting on the patio might be better than my experience…
Was open until 8 pm I believe on a week night which is pretty good.
I had an incredible experience at Xetava, and it was all thanks to our server, Wren, who was absolutely amazing from start to finish. She made spot-on suggestions all night, and let me tell you — she did not miss.
I went with the Mahi tacos, and they might honestly be the best tacos I’ve ever had. When the bill came, I saw I paid $4 for half an avocado… and I wasn’t even mad. That’s how good everything was.
Then Wren suggested the peppermint mocha cake, and I’m pretty sure it changed my life. I paired it with a mocha latte, and my brain checked into a state of bliss where I truly couldn’t imagine being anywhere else in the universe.
All in all, Xetava gets 5 stars from me, thanks to Wren’s incredible service and top-tier recommendations. I’ll definitely be back — several more times, in fact!
Anyway, after that, made our way to restaurant. Entered at 6pm on Tue night, only one other party in the whole place. It’s rustic, which is fine, but slight tint of sewer smell my wife and I both noticed. NOT appealing at all. We decided to stay though and the smell eventually faded – still seemed to linger though. Not sure if it is just the ‘old’ smell of the place or what.
We had brussel sprout app (w/ bacon) – good but tbf Cliffside does it just a bit better.
Had a burger and french dip. Burger was 1/2 pound and come with like a pound of fries. We both really liked our sandwiches and I couldn’t even finish the burger.
They were very fast – makes sense with almost nobody there. One, maybe two more tables, showed up while we were there, but never got busier.
My wife has been here several times with gal friends. Always warmer and they sit outside. On a later and cooler night, being inside with that smell wasn’t great, so reccomend going when you can sit outdoors.
I think next time we will try the Rustic Cactus, their sister restaurant on the other side of the wall/building. Some of the same menu items, but some differences, and just looking for a little better ambience.
Overall, food was tasty and value was good. Bill was $50-60 for us both, I think. Just don’t go after dark without a good flashlight, and hope for a better aroma.
