Murphy’s Grog Shoppe is a small town must. This place puts out some seriously delicious food. Their hot dogs (actually made with real NE beef) are probably the best I’ve ever had (the Voodoo Dog in particular). The pizzas are up there as some of the best ever too. Fresh ingredients, well thought out combinations, and A++ sauces (house made BBQ, spicy BBQ, and especially unique Voodoo sauce) put this place on the map. If I lived in Lincoln I’d day trip here for the food alone. Seriously, if this place were in Austin or Chicago it’d explode.
Bar wise, it’s really relaxed and got a nice set up with your essentials like billiards, darts, foosball, sand volleyball, and even a horseshoes pit. There’s a spacious beer garden out back and even a stage for bands. Inside, you’ve got your internet jukebox and a couple flat screen TVs for the game or what have you.
Alcohol wise, there’s actually a bit more variety outside your everyday domestics. With a good liquor selection and house made “grog,” you’ve got cocktail or booze options.
Anytime I’m traveling through I make it a point to hit this place up. It’s family owned, puts out exceptional food with care, and sometimes does special community events. They’ll also often enough just smoke a ton of meat–wings or pork or what have you–for different occasions. I think they may even offer to smoke meats for graduations, weddings, or whatever.
I highly recommend. It’s a great destination for a summer bike ride or if your just passing through. Especially if you’re just down in GI. What more could this place have? A bar dog? Oh there’s that too. A sweet little basset hound named Clementine.
