This review only reflects my breakfast experience as Im a breakfast burrito kind of guy and often try them out between destinations traveling.

The burrito is sizable because of the tortilla but not really packed with ingredients. Its got some egg a reasonable but on the light side amount of cheese but way too much potato filler and a disproportionately small amount of protein for a $13 entree. Photo illustrates it best.

It was filling but for a sit down restaurant its a bit lacking in service and I could have just as well ate this in my car and enjoyed it the same.

I won’t be stopping by the next time I’m along this route.

I grew up in San Marcos, Oscar’s was always a family favorite, we loved the rolled tacos, carne asada fries, and carne asada nachos, recently I’ve noticed the portions have changed, its alot smaller now, for more expensive. One time I had ordered carne asada fries and asked them to not add guacamole and she comfirmed, when I got to the window, the lady took my payment and I asked her if they did it how I asked, she said she couldn’t remember and for me to check the bag which I did and sure enough it had guacamole, she rolled her eyes because I asked her to change it, I even apologized for their mistake, they did give it back to me quickly but its happend where they forget things. Today I went over because I was craving a tamale, ive never tried their tamales so I ordered 1 chicken which was $3.50. I couldnt feel anything inside the plastic container so I opened it to my surprise. It was a small teeny tiny, burnt, hard, cold, dry tamale. I was shocked and decided to write this review. As a life long customer really sad to see this is how they do their people. I’ve spent alot of money through out the years and love to support small family businesses. But wow! I just couldn’t believe $3.50 for this. Please don’t do this anymore Oscar’s. It was the worst. I should of gone inside and showed them but didn’t, please pay attention to what you’re feeding your customers.

I went through the drive-through and the guy could NOT understand me. I asked for a side order of Rice & Beans and when I got home & opened up the container I said “What the heck is this??” It was a bunch of French fries with refried beans on it. It looked like someone took a poop in the container because that’s not what I was expecting. But…. I have to admit that it was good – lol. I also ordered a carne asada taco and the meat was in cubes. Usually anywhere I order this it’s shredded not cubed. It was odd and made me feel odd about eating it. But it wasn’t bad.

Mannnnn!!! It’s been years since I’ve had a good chile verde burrito (without hot sauce) and this is pure and it’s as big as my forearm for $11.50!! I’m definitely coming back!!

Oscar’s has always been my go to place for lunch. But lately the food has gone down hill while the prices continue to go up. ($1.99 for extra sour cream. I can buy 8oz of sour cream at the store for that). And they get your order wrong more often than not.
Yesterday 1-13-2026 I got a shrimp burrito no rice extra cabbage. Drove 2 minutes back to my office and started to eat. My burrito was ice cold. The shrimp were colder than the cabbage.
Time to find a new place for good Mexican food.

Oscar’s Mexican Food is an absolute gem that never disappoints! The flavor of their carne asada is out of this world—perfectly seasoned, tender, and bursting with authentic Mexican goodness. The portions are generous, so you always leave feeling satisfied and full.

Nothing facy but the food is solid! My burrito is huge and packed with meat from the first bite to the last. Fast food restaurant and there’s no waiter serving except bringing the food to you. Servicing people are friendly and patient. I will go back again.

The carnitas in general are very good but the carnitas burritos here are delicious. Shrimp burritos are also very good but beware they put rice in them which I dont like. Also the rolled tacos here are the best in the area. Their carne asada has improved. 24 hrs is great, I can always count on Oscars. Their pretty fast too although their can be a long line sometimes.

This is my chosen Mexican food place after leaving San Ysidro. Best place in San Marcos no doubt. They are always very kind and remember me by name. Their customer service is 10-10, I recommend the chile relleno burrito, its always good.
