The service, atmosphere, and overall vibes were great. The staff was friendly, the place looked amazing, and it definitely has a welcoming feel.
What missed the mark:
The food is overpriced for the quality delivered. I ordered the Mole Verde (Pipian), and the chicken under the mole was definitely not freshly grilled. It had that tough, dry texture you get from leftover grilled chicken that’s been sitting for hours (or from the day before). I smoke and grill plenty of chicken myself—I know the difference. At this price point, fresh should be a given. The mole itself was alright, but nowhere near the best I’ve had, especially compared to what you can get in Michoacán or even local spots back home for half the cost. Fresh chicken alone would’ve made the dish significantly better. For $20+, do better.
My colleague ordered the Asado Pork with Chipotle Sauce, and while it wasn’t bad, it had a strong citrus flavor (like limey) was overpowering to the point it took away from the dish. Again, not worth the price.
The one standout was the Chicharrones with Habanero Sauce appetizer. Solid 4/5—super tasty, but almost $20 for chicharrones? Bruh…
Overall:
Lunch for two came out to around $90 (two drinks), and for that price, the quality should be more consistent—especially the freshness of the chicken. I’ll come back and give this place another shot because the service and atmosphere were great, and I’ll update my rating then. But for now, it’s a solid 2.5 stars from me.
Update: We’ve been here twice now and it was just as good the second time. This time was a Thursday dinner visit. I had brisket enchiladas with red pepper sauce and they were excellent. I didn’t want beans and it was easy to sub for a side of veggies. You can get entrees under $20 but there are also a lot around $22 so expect to pay more than $30 for a couple of entrees. They do have coupons ($10 off a purchase of $40) in mailers and the local magazines.
We don’t live nearby but,
will be back next time we’re in the area.
Service has been up and down. We’ve had some inexperienced servers or ones that are too busy. But they do try hard. The ambience can be good or bad depending on where you are seated and your preferences. It can be loud – they sometimes have live music or music through speakers that is louder than it needs to be. We have asked to be moved and it was much better. Overall we love this place for the great food even though the service can be inconsistent. If it’s too loud, we speak up and they do try to correct it.
Staff is extremely friendly and attentive. That kitchen is an oiled machine that produces dishes in lightning speed and its fresh and hot! Love it.
Great date night place!!!
