As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you’ll feel like you just arrived somewhere besides Springfield, MO. It’s upscale dining, but you’re treated with southern hospitality as sweet as iced tea on grandma’s porch. The food was some of the finest fair I’ve experienced in all my travels. The blue chz stuffed olive on top was our server Collin. I’ve travelled, owned restaurants, and worked in fine dining, and he was one of the best servers I’ve encountered. I’d give him, the chef, the manager, and the atmosphere 10 stars if I could. Teamwork makes the dream work, and this place is on char!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT !!!!!
My husband and I made a reservation here for Valentine’s Day and unfortunately, it was completely not worth it.

I do want to say that our waiter, Ethan, was phenomenal. He was very informative, attentive, and truly provided excellent service throughout the evening. He was the highlight of our experience.

However, the food was extremely disappointing. For the amount of money we paid — over $400, almost $500 including tip — we expected something exceptional. Instead, the meal felt overpriced, underwhelming, and honestly overrated. The quality did not match the price point at all. It felt more like we were paying for the hype rather than the food itself.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to feel special, and sadly the food did not live up to that expectation. We left feeling disappointed and like it simply wasn’t worth what we spent.

Exceptional Service from Collin at Char

Our dining experience at Char was truly elevated by the impeccable service from Collin. From the moment we were seated, he made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. Collin went above and beyond—not only recommending outstanding dishes, but first taking the time to ask about our preferences and tastes before offering thoughtful, personalized suggestions. Every recommendation was perfectly suited to our palate and complemented the flow of the meal beautifully.

Throughout the evening, Collin balanced attentiveness and discretion with ease. Our glasses were never empty, plates were timed perfectly between courses, and he seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even had to ask. His professionalism, knowledge of the menu, and warm, confident demeanor set the tone for an exceptional fine-dining experience.

It’s rare to encounter service that feels both polished and genuinely personal, but Collin delivered exactly that. He is a true credit to Char, and we’ll absolutely be requesting him for every visit!

My husband planned a date night and wanted to try somewhere “nice and new,” so we went to Char Steakhouse. We were seated right away with our reservation, and I immediately loved the romantic lighting and cozy booth seating.

The menu was a bit overwhelming for our taste, but our server, Michael, was great. He could tell we were new and kindly walked us through everything. I skipped wine and ordered the Flirtini, which was strong but tasty. We both ordered filets, an 8oz medium for me and a 14oz bone-in medium for my husband.

While waiting, we were served a bread basket which unfortunately was soggy in the middle and seemed underdone. Our entrees came out quickly, but maybe too quickly, since my husband’s steak was nearly rare in the middle. The staff was very apologetic and took it back, but by the time it returned (perfectly cooked the second time), I was nearly finished with my meal. The chef personally brought it out with a fresh side, again very apologetic, though his comment about “those being so thick they take forever to cook” wasn’t exactly what we wanted to hear.

Overall, the food was good, but not quite as impressive as we expected for the price point. They did comp our dessert, which was delicious and much appreciated. It was a nice evening, but probably not one we’d rush to repeat. My husband jokes that he still prefers Colton’s.

We were in town for an event that happened to cross over with Valentine’s Day. We booked a table at Char, understanding that they had a special Prix Fixe menu for the night. Typically, that’s a big red flag for me, as we haven’t had great experiences in the past, but Char was an outstanding exception!
First of all, the restaurant is stunning. We’ve dined at many fine dining establishments and this one hits the mark – contemporary elegance at its best.
Hadley, our server, was outstanding. She was professional, but also friendly and conversational. She is an asset to your team!
The food was exactly what you would expect at a five-star restaurant. Dishes were timed perfectly and everything our party of 4 ordered was wonderful. The steaks are the star of the show here and each was perfectly cooked to order and exceptionally flavorful, especially the A5 wagyu. You don’t want to miss the lobster risotto or the lyonnaise potatoes! The cocktails and wine offerings were stellar and, while we claimed to be “too full”, the dessert was divine.
Char is on par with exclusive restaurants in much bigger cities, and we look forward to a return visit next time we are in Springfield.

I enjoyed a night out with my husband to celebrate my 30th birthday and had a wonderful experience at Char Steakhouse! The atmosphere was perfect for a special night, and the food was amazing — the oysters were definitely a hit! Everything from the service to the cocktails was top-notch. Such a great spot for a celebration or a nice date night!

Char gave my wife and I the best restaurant experience, ever. We had a reservation for 4. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks. Soon after, we ordered our appetizers and main courses. The service was excellent the entire time. The food took longer to arrive than the staff was content with. We were just enjoying our company and having drinks together. Never gave it a second thought that the food was taking extra time to prepare, we never complained to the staff or even amongst ourselves, and to be honest, it didn’t even feel like we waited very long to begin with. The manager or owner (not sure) came to our table and said it was unacceptable that we had to wait as long as we did and gave all 4 of us a completely free Chef’s choice meal, at another date. Months later, we took our free vouchers to Char. The Chef came and sat at our table spending a descent amount of time with us, asked what kinds of food we like, and then made us a multi-course custom meal on the house. Salad, appetizer, two main courses each, and dessert. I’ve never experienced anything like it. For a business to feel they didn’t do as well as they could have and go above and beyond to make it right is so rare and it speaks volumes about the kind of business they are. We were completely content, they were not. Wow! Amazing place and the food was incredible both times! Thank you so much!!

Went here with some friends for a birthday last night, and had an absolutely amazing experience. The candlelit atmosphere was stunning, and the service felt special. The complimentary bubbles really added to the service. I ordered the lobster bisque, and it was perfect. I also ordered some Moscato to have with my soup, which was the sweetest I’ve ever tasted. I loved it so much I didn’t even need to order a desert! My party chose some of the options from the desert menu, and our server delivered them with a sparkler and card for my friend’s birthday. Truly a remarkable experience, and I plan on returning for Valentine’s to try one of the steaks.
