The Chicken Coop is widely regarded as one of if not the best fried chicken spots in New Jersey. Mine and my father’s taste buds certainly agree. It reminded us of Golden Skillet back when they used to have locations up here in New Jersey some 20 plus years ago. It’s definitely the best American style fried chicken I’ve had since Golden Skillet used to be around up here, you can only find them down south now. The people running the place are very friendly and the service was quick and attentive. And it’s located within the wildly awesome Columbus farmers market. I’ll definitely come back in the future.

Went there yesterday with my wife. Had what i think is the best chicken sandwich of all my 51 years on this earth. Now there are 2 types of people in this world , those who eat to live, and those who live to eat. I am of the latter, so i take it very serious when i say “the best” of anything. Lets start with the ladies behind the counter of the Coop Cafe. You deserve a raise! They were so wonderful, I explained it was our first time there and they were so helpful and explaining everything. My wife and I both got the “The Plain Jane” which is “Crispy chicken with melted Monterey jack cheese” we added mayo and pickles. I also went across the isle to the main chicken coop and got a order of the famous JOJOs. They called us for our sandwiches and these sandwiches are HUGE! the pictures do not do them justice. This is PURE chicken, breaded and fried to perfection. There is no processed crap in this at all. The chips were really good also, My wife said they were some of the best chips she had. I must admit the JOJOs potatoes i was not as impressed with, however they did taste good, I think the hype of them raised my expectations of them to a level they could not reach. They were not crispy at all and were a little soggy, I got them and walked right across the isle to our table in the cafe, so its not like they steamed in the foil for 20 mins while i drove home. They were good though. I would still rec ommend getting them, however with the size of the sandwiches, i dont think you need a additional side. Was not not expecting such a huge sandwich. The people behind the counter also gave a small sample cup of the sweet hot honey sauce that people normally put on the chickin, its homemade and was AMAZING. I will tell you if you have any thoughts of going to get something to eat in that area, DEF go and stop by and see the Chicken Coop Cage. you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to go back to be honest with you. I will see you all REAL SOON. Thank you so much for a great experience.

What an amazing find! They are located inside Amish market/flea market. This place is pretty bumping with customers frying up some delicious fried chicken and all the tasty sides so you basically just grab a ticket. They call your number and then you place your order for whatever chicken and sides you want. The prices are fairly decent and you get a good amount of food or whatever you’re ordering the staff was friendly and suggestive. We heard about this place through a friend that lives nearby and I’m glad we had the opportunity to give them a try. I ordered about $100 worth of food to bring it back home For the family to try. I definitely recommend it if you’re down in the area . it’s definitely a nice walk inside to see all the vendors. You can find plenty of tasty treats to purchase . I ordered the family meal which was 12 pieces of chicken , fried potatoes and a large side of candied yams . I ordered an additional side of collard greens and 6 extra large wings . Chicken was cooked to perfection ( nice and juicy ) candied yams were delicious( just the right amount of sweetness ) and the collards were tender ( but could use some vinegar to give them some southern twang ) the fried potatoes weee yummy as well . As a bonus I got some fried chicken livers and gizzards

The Coop Cafe at Richard’s Chicken Coop was the best Chicken Sandwich I ever had. Honestly the chicken breast was thick, juicy and tasty. We had 3 of them, the Hot Mama, The Famous Sauce Sandwich and the BBQ Deliight. They were all fantastic. The potato chips with the Sandwich was on point. Then we ended the day with a Banana Pudding Milkshake, the server that helped us was absolutely amazing and my daughter loved the shake. Prices were good for the amount and freshness.

I had high hopes for this place based on the amount of people ordering but unfortunately i was left disappointed. This food lacks seasoning all around. I tried the Thighs, a wing, mac n cheese, potato salad, macaroni salad, and candied yams. I am pretty sure the yams are from a can and just a little extra brown sugar mixed in. The wings are just average. The sides however were all very bland and had no hint of any seasoning. They were also out of gizzards when i went. The prices are fair and the staff is well organized and cordial. With all that in mind i would patron this place again only to try the gizzards and the kielbasas which looked good. If those arent tasty i would select another of the many vendors on site.

First I have to say this place’s chicken is off the chart in freshness and flavor I stopped and got the Chicken club sandwich and no place can even get close to it. The chicken breast was juicy and flavorful well seasoned and huge then the fresh bacon dukes mayo farm fresh tomato and lettuce on a fresh Keyser roll was so good that I had to enjoy every bite as I indulged on the home made kettle chips and pickle that accompanied my sandwich you have to try it CHICKEN IS THEIR THING…

Enjoyed the Elvis Presley milk shake made by Lisa at The Chicken Coop/The Coop Café along with the delicious chicken and corn bread. On my next visit, I’ll try the Banana Pudding milk shake and the Cheesecake milk shake. Come support the small business located at the Cloumbus Farmer’s Market. Highly recommend

I got sick on their breakfast sandwich again. I have been going there on a regular basis then they started ignoring me and giving me attitude, very typical from previous experiences with the owner and her daughter. I don’t feel they handle the food properly to prevent bacteria that is probably why I got sick eating the sandwich. I would recommend going to the Amish Market for all a good healthy reasonable priced meal.

Would give 0 if I could. 2nd time here even worse experience than before. Waited for 35 min come to find out 2 hour before close they run out of legs and thigh and most sides , why??? Then they found a leg that looks like a chicken finger . I try check out asked if I found just add 3 wings she told me I have to get back of the. Line when it could take her 5 seconds to get it in a bag. Taller lady that’s one of the daughter usually the one with an attitude so try avoid her. I really don’t know why so packed here all the time but I’m sure if they keep this up it won’t be as crowded. I for sure would rather go Popey’s than here again .
