Casa Vasca: Service, food, atmosphere — all 5 stars! My friend told me about Casa Vasca years ago, and I finally took the trip to Newark and visited this well established restaurant. There is free parking, in their private lot, just around the corner. There is an attendant who makes sure your car is safe.

The restaurant is a very short walk from the parking lot – there is a large sign on the building.

When you enter there is a large lively bar with patrons having drinks, and fun, and watching sporting events. To the left of the bar is a door leading you to the quiet, yet busy, restaurant. The atmosphere is mellow and the service is excellent!

My husband and I sat in the back corner. We were immediately addressed by our waiter, Jose, who took our drink orders. I had a glass of Spanish wine and my husband had a Spanish beer.

We started with the soup of the day and the shrimp and octopus appetizer. The octopus was incredibly tender!

I ordered the salmon as my meal and my husband had the Chicken and rice – to be honest I was too focused on my own food. 🙂 The Salmon was cooked perfectly – like butter. Our meals came with salad, as well. Large portions – perfectly prepared.

Dessert: Flan… of course! Perfectly baked. (Can you hear my stomach growling). We each had an after dinner drink – warm brandy for me, and then we were off to a show at NJPAC.

Bonus: We met the owner, Maria, who was very cordial to us. I wish I took more pictures of the food, but I was too busy enjoying the food! WE WILL BE BACK!

This place sets the standard for amazing food and warm hospitality. Everything feels genuinely authentic, from the flavors to the way guests are treated. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you’re completely taken care of, and the owner is such a kind and welcoming person who makes everyone feel at home. Once you eat here, it’s hard to find anywhere else that measures up!

It’s refreshing to see a historical heritage Spanish restaurant, accommodating to all cultures coming to experience Spanish cuisine. It was wonderful to see Latin American staff that were impeccably trained. The food did not disappoint being of Spanish heritage. It was sad to see a negative review a while back, saying that the ambience and the food and service was not good. Quite contrary I personally think that that person may have not wanted to see a diverse community of different nationalities, enjoying the restaurant

What a gem! Great pulpo and croquetas de bacalao, really missed these. The bacalao al pil pil was really good too, and the portion was huge. Nice staff and great service, though the best thing was the people we met who recommended us all the good places to eat/shop in the neighborhood.

A tail of two dishes.
Shrimp and Octopus in garlic sauce – Excellent
Pan fried red snapper with garlic – Terrible. Dry, flavorless fillet topped with garlic pieces that didnt save it one bit.
Enjoyed the service and old school feel

12/5 recommend this place! Incredibly polite and attentive staff, refilling drinks for you, wrapping your left overs for you, and making sure the food is perfect. Great seafood selection. Delicious homemade bread. Variety of alcoholic beverages to choose from (I enjoyed some Sangria). Best dinner experience in our trip to New York. Will be coming back again when in the area!

My friend and her father came to this restaurant 25 years ago and being form Basque country they liked it, but now when we went only one thing that we order was good: croquetas de bacalao. The seafood paella had no flavor, it tasted like rice with a few eye-catching sea food pieces( shrimp, lobster, scallops) but no taste, the stew squid was the same an eye-catching lacking seasoning plate. She was very disappointed because we had great expectations about the place, the people on the other had where very nice and attentive.

Amazing, no rubber seafood, cooked to perfection and most importantly fresh. I got the Paella Valenciana, it was juicy, tender and flavorful. The price was amazing too. Dont bother going anywhere else, go here.

This is my go to when in North Jersey. I’m from Philly, but have been coming here for 20 plus years. Was introduced by a customer of mine and always did lunch or dinner here with clients. The food is amazing – was here Saturday to take y daughter for birthday dinner. The weekends they have amazing specials – i had the suckling pig – it was absolutely delish and the sauce amazing. She had the stuffed salmon and it didnt disappoint. Pitcher of white sangria was perfect. Impeccable service as well. Thanks again for a wonderful meal.
