There was a long wait to be seated on a Saturday morning. The food and drinks were delicious. Unfortunately they will be closing this location at the end of the month. I will definitely keep an eye out for their new location and try them again.

My husband and I stopped in for breakfast after hearing wonderful things about the food, and it did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious and clearly made with care. The only drawback was the long wait and slower service. It seemed the staff was doing their best but were simply understaffed. Hopefully, they can bring on more staff, because with service to match the quality of the food, this place would be excellent all around.

Cute place. Nice servers. Long wait time (90min). They offered a few cocktails. I ordered shrimp and grits and it was decent. I also ordered scrambled egg and avocado on the side. The avocado was NOT fresh. It almost tasted frozen and was only 90% thawed. Very weird taste. My friends ordered pancakes and one of the hash dishes. No complaints.

While passing through Newport News I stopped in Byrds with my family. We had a little bit of a wait but it was definitely worth it. Everything from the fluffy scrambled eggs to the perfectly cooked bacon was delicious. My daughter enjoyed their pancakes and their French toast was amazing. I loved their cheddar grits. If I’m ever back in the area I would definitely stop in here again.

Yea its gonna be a no for me. Checked in at 1230 and was told it was an hour wait. We really wanted to try this place so figured why not. At 138 I decide to go back inside and was told I was called at 120…I had no missed calls and was literally sitting right out front. But anyway we move on from that and get seated immediately. I put in my son’s apple juice and a water and bellini for me… now it’s 204… my son is done eating and I have no drink and no food. I’m not about to make him sit here and wait while I eat my food… that’s wild so now I’m about to cancle my order and go to chic fil a… at least my son ate… so when I told the waitress I wanted to cancel she said well we always bring the kids food out first. I respect that but he’s done eating and I literally haven’t even gotten my drink… no apology no nothing…I just want my check so I can go get myself some food… just got the check no discount again no apology. Then I hear the other waitress say his food was brought out with another tables, that shouldn’t have happened and my food shouldn’t have ever taken this long… it’s 215 and I’m out… and starving… mind you I’ve been waiting to eat since 1230… thanks for the great service… NOT!!!!

This was our first visit to Byrd’s. We were greeted and seated almost immediately when we arrived at 7AM. Our server was very nice, pleasant and attentive. Our food came out after about a 15 minute wait. My cheeseburger with bacon and egg was fine. I would recommend more seasoning as the meat tasted very plain and was a bit dry. I realize they have to cater to different tastes but meat seasoning is a must for me. The star of the show was the poutine fries. A small is enough for two people. We would come again for the poutine. The brown gravy was the perfect consistency and it went all the way through the fries. I might try the white gravy on it next time. You could tell the owners cared about good service as they were visible during our time here.

5 Stars – A Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite!

Byrd’s Restaurant is the kind of place that makes you want to come back before you’ve even left. I ordered the Byrd’s Hash with deli corned beef (and yes—real corned beef, not the canned stuff!). The home fries, onions, and bell peppers were perfectly grilled together, topped with two eggs just the way I like them, and served with my choice of bread. You could taste the freshness in every bite—absolutely amazing.

My husband got the shrimp and grits, and let me tell you… I almost ditched my own plate to steal his. As someone who’s never had shrimp and grits before, Byrd’s set the bar way high. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection—they nailed it.

The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, just walk-ins, but the wait is 100% worth it. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which just adds to the cozy, down-to-earth vibe.

Byrd’s is a must-visit—whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a winner.

Byrds is my little family absolute favorite breakfast place! My 5 and 1 year old are always treated so sweet by staff and the owner, the food is amazing and they have really good mimosas! Definitely recommend the pomegranate. When my parents visit from Texas this is a must visit place for us my mom and dad said best shrimp and grits and Reuben sub they’ve had. Their pimento dip is also one we order everytime! Absolutely recommend! Only down side is there is almost always a wait only cause everyone loves them but they move very quickly the restaurant and staff are very time efficient!
