Downstairs you will find live music and a classic bar, upstairs and outside you will find dining. We tried their signature chicken strips and curry wurst, which were decent. More memorably, we tried their beer of the month (for Oktoberfest), and that was incredibly good. I have no beer knowledge, but it was very smooth and light.

A classic institution that I hope never changes <3 Excellent patio and yummy German menu with generous portions and vegetarian options. The servers are the same every time and super friendly. I love the pretzel and cheese and will get it every visit.

Such an amazing spot. Great for meeting friends and a casual catch-up. I was there on New Year’s Day. Super german vibes, I felt transported to Düsseldorf. I was The waitress was so kind and I loved the upstairs dining area which featured an elevator just for food to be lifted up. The fish and chips was a great portion size and the chips were super crispy and delightful.

Be advised: the bitters soda is $10.

Come for the atmosphere, stay for the food! We came here on a Tuesday, around 10 pm and headed upstairs. As soon as you enter the upstairs area, you are transported to a wonderful German beer garden that feels like you’re actually IN Germany. Lovely lighting, cool music playing. The bartender/ server was quick and courteous and it seemed like our good came out lightning fast.

We ordered the bratwurst dinner, and it came with sauerkraut, German potato salad, and mustard. We also ordered the pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes and gravy, and red cabbage. Everything was delicious!

I felt like we traveled in a time machine to get here. It was warm and welcoming. When I told friends we had gone here, everyone raved about how great it is. I can’t wait to come back.

Red Lion Tavern feels like stepping into a different world, one more beer is cold, the portions are massive, and everyone suddenly remembers they have a deep, emotional connection to German food. As someone who grew up in eyeliner and band tees, and now lives in spreadsheets and campaign decks, this place hits a very specific comfort spot I didn’t know I had.

The vibe is unbeatable. The downstairs bar feels like the coziest, underground hideout, and the rooftop patio is perfect for pretending you’re on a European vacation without leaving Silver Lake. The staff is fun, welcoming, and exactly the right level of chaotic for a place that serves beers larger than my early 2000’s hair.

The food is the real deal. The bratwurst and pretzels are elite, and the schnitzel could probably fix a handful of my personality flaws if I let it. This is Hardy, no nonsense, comfort Food that pairs, perfectly with a beer so good it literally makes me want to study the menu like I’m prepping for finals at UCLA again.

If you want a bar with character, history, and zero pretense, Red Lion, is it. Five stars, zero regrets, and yes, I will absolutely be back for another beer.

If you have friends, you can meet them here. Good food. If you don’t have friends, do what I did and take an Uber because you can’t pull off a straight line walk after 6 half-litres of Hefeweizen.

Great food. It was my first time here and it was great. The night I was there the service was slow but it gave me more time to enjoy great beer and hang out there. The waitresses did an amazing job. I highly recommended visiting this gem.

Met my son and some of his friends here the other night, along with a few of our friends. Loved it! Classic German bierhaus! Good food. Great service. It was trivia night! And i had the best hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps ever! Real whipped cream. Very old place, but classic. Great neighborhood bar too!

Service here was absolutely atrocious. Workers were rude and seemed not to care. The food was good but was not worth the experience of not being helped…we had to clear our own tables and remove dishes to make room for all the food our group ordered. We had a birthday cake ready which they never brought out…we had to go and find it, bring it out, bus our own dinner dishes, find new plates and utensils to serve the cake and cut it ourselves…yet they charged us a $25 cake fee! If you go here MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BILL before paying!
