One of the best spots to experience Hanoi’s iconic Train Street. We arrived about 40 minutes before the scheduled train pass-by, which is highly recommended if you want to secure a good seat close to the tracks.
A local tip: you must order your drink first, and it’s best to finish it a few minutes before the train arrives. Once the train is approaching, the staff will quickly fold the tables and move everything aside, and you’ll need to manage your own drinks. It can feel a bit uncomfortable—and honestly adds to the thrill—so being prepared helps.
The train passes extremely close to the seats. I’ve never been this near to a moving train in my life. It’s a fascinating yet heart-racing experience—one small misstep could be dangerous, so full awareness is essential.
Fun fact: Train Street was once an everyday residential area before becoming a viral attraction. Locals still live along the tracks, which is why staff strictly follow safety procedures when trains pass.
Best time to visit in the evening:
Arrive 30–45 minutes before the evening train schedule, usually between 7:00–8:30 PM, when the atmosphere is lively but not overly crowded. Earlier arrival gives you better seating and time to settle in.
In my opinion, this experience is recommended only for adults and teenagers. It’s not suitable for young children due to safety concerns.
Special thanks to Suzy, our server—she was kind, informative, and still took the time to chat with us despite the busy hours. It’s a pity we didn’t get a photo together like some other guests did—it would’ve been a great memory.

Wow! What an incredible experience. I contacted Lily by WhatsApp and she was incredibly helpful and advised the train times and gave us advice on what to expect. Sadly, our first planned visit in November 2025 was postponed when we were in Hanoi due to the floods in Central Vietnam and the trains were not running. Luckily, as we live in Thailand we regularly visit Hanoi and this time we got to experience the train at Hanoi 1990s. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were looked after so well by Suzy who explained things to us and offered to take photos – she was brilliant and so friendly. Suzy helped make it an exciting and fun experience too. Seeing the train passing so close by is exhilarating. We stayed on after the afternoon train and enjoyed the atmosphere and another bottle of Hanoi beer. I highly recommend Hanoi 1990s. You won’t be disappointed!

The owners and staff are so, very, friendly and accommodating!!
Their drinks are so good too, we ordered shakes, juices, and coffee. Their black coffee/americano is the real deal here. We missed the train by 2 minutes. They also sell souvenirs which are cheaper compared to those in Old Street. I’ll definitely come back here once I visit Hanoi again.

Extremely good experience here, the food and drinks are amazing! The staff here explained the instructions on what to do when the train passes by really well and are really good at taking pictures, they’re all also very friendly and helpful.
Not pushy at all when we were walking into the train street, instead they showed us their menu first before we agreed to have a seat. Really recommend this place to sit and watch the iconic train, but do remember to bring cash as it’s the preferred mode of payment! ️

Really cool morning! We went on Saturday to see the 11.40 train. We were sat on the edge of the tracks, served our drinks promptly! If you get a bottle of beer you can place your cap to be squished on the track, which is a very cool keepsake! The staff instructed us on how to stay safe and the correct position to sit in, so we were away from the train passing extremely close by. We had lots of fun and do recommend it!

Hanoi 1990s Café on Train Street is an absolute must-do and one of the most exciting experiences we had in Hanoi. The whole thing feels like a movie, sitting with your knees literally centimetres from the train as it passes is completely exhilarating.
Finding the café is part of the magic. You access it through a furniture shop, which makes it feel like a secret, hidden world opening up onto Train Street…such a fun and memorable start to the experience.
Lily is amazing. She was incredibly helpful, advising us on the best time to visit and sharing the train timetable in advance so we knew exactly when to arrive. That level of care made everything feel relaxed, safe and well organised.
We went for breakfast and the food was great too, which was a lovely bonus alongside such a unique setting. The atmosphere is fantastic and you really get to soak it all in rather than feeling rushed.
Enjoy the tradition of buying a beer, pop the cap off and place it on the train line so the train flattens it for you as a souvenir!

Great place to watch the trains. We saw 3 trains while we were there. We sat on the balcony and looked down to the trains. It’s very close so don’t stick your phone too far out. Also the honk was very loud. Food was average. We had chicken nuggets, french fries and pho.
