Ordered take out from here and the two men that helped me were kind and helpful. I got the beef Kay Kay and the goat with rice and Somali tea. It was all so delicious and the portions are huge! We will have food for days!

CLARIFICATION: I went to the Karmel Mall restaurant by this name in late summer, not sure if it’s the same as the restaurant by the same name across from In the Heart of the Beast Theater, since several Somali restaurants have similar names to this one. I wasn’t especially hungry, but servers at the order counter explained menu items patiently after finding someone who could speak English well. I ordered a simple soup with cabbage in a cup. It was a bold, spicy, filling cup of soup and the vegetables still had some texture to them. They had a handwashing station conveniently close to the table. A real standout was the warmth of the people. A random guy who sat at the same table was eating some a Somali beef entree over rice, and shared some with me (not pictured), and that was also very delicious. I was touched by the generosity. During my meal, people told me this was the first restaurant in the Karmel Mall. It seemed a very family-friendly place cuz I saw lots of families eating there together. I will certainly be back.

Don’t believe the hype. People give this place way too much credit, but the food is mediocre at best. The real issue, though, is the service. The guys working there act like they’ve never been in a professional setting. Making inappropriate jokes and ‘hollering’ at female customers isn’t ‘hospitality’—it’s disrespectful and uncomfortable. I came for a meal, not to be harassed by staff who don’t know how to act. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values their customers.

Got a Chicken Suqaar to go. Food was pretty good but it was mostly rice and the mango juice was a bit too sweet for my taste. First time trying out Somali food so not sure how authentic it is, but it was delicious. Read in previous reviews that service was pretty bad and they did seem a bit disorganized but I was able to get my food in ~20 minutes. I did have to constantly check-in with the cashier though but the restaurant was busy so it’s understandable. Would go again but only for take-out and would try to order ahead of time if possible.

Advertised goat…specifically what I went there for. They didn’t have any so had to choose between chicken or beef which was fine. Asked for chicken, got beef and chicken, both of which were delicious. Rice was amazing. Sambosa was over cooked and under seasoned. Overall, really happy with the food. Server was lackadaisical, didnt listen well at all. Didnt seem to care about being there. Asked for boxes, took him 15 minutes to come back to the tablet with them after he’d given the check when he couldve just brought it all together. Couldn’t even remember to bring a cap for our to go condiments.

Good food & hospitality. Just two solid hours of detail cleaning the chairs, tables, bathrooms and they’d be good to go!

Super friendly staff, great prices, amazing portions, good food. My Somali friend introduced it to me as the best Somalian food in the NATION.

I was not disappointed. I HIGHLY suggest anything with their rice. I was also a big fan of their steak KK.

I will come back for sure.
