I am so happy we found this place! The service was quick and kind, the food was fresh and delicious and the place was cozy and charming! Try a pastry in the glass- you won’t regret it! I forgot to take a photo but we have an orange loaf? Not really sure what it’s called but it looks like a blondie brownie but it’s really a little orange cake.

Saw the high reviews and high number of ratings and this cafe did not disappoint. Food was delicious with large portions. They were out of certain items like croissant when we came by.

I ordered the French toast and it was a generous portion. Lots of fluffy French toast. The best fruit are the bananas. Grapes don’t seem to be very good in Costa Rica. The beans and rice are flavorful and delicious.

Not pictured is the tea and coffee that was ordered. I don’t suggest the tea since it’s a bit watered down, but the coffee was a good experience because they pour it in a traditional container and serve it.

There are some parking spots available in the front and on the side street. There’s a park next to the cafe that has a security guard who will shoo you away.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was very welcoming and well decorated, and the service beats just about any restaurant we’ve been to thus far. Everyone is so sweet and accommodating. They even have a little cart for kids to enjoy a few toys and coloring. Definitely will be back!

We stopped by Cafe a la Moda after landing at SJO at 6am following a red eye from LAX, and it ended up being the perfect first stop in Costa Rica. We had pre booked an Airbnb nearby that allowed early luggage drop off, and our host went above and beyond by giving us a ride over to the cafe. Off to a great start already.

We arrived shortly after Cafe a la Moda opened and were greeted warmly right away. The space felt calm and welcoming, which was exactly what we needed after a long travel day. This was a spot we had bookmarked ahead of time, so we were excited to finally check it out.

One of the things that really stood out was the focus on coffee. They offer several different preparation methods, and I jumped at the chance to try coffee made with a ceramic Vandola, a traditional Costa Rican brewing method. It was a fun experience and a great way to kick off the trip. If you are into coffee, this place is worth a stop just for that alone.

For food, Anna ordered the avocado toast and I went with my usual move at a new cafe, the typical Costa Rican breakfast. Both were excellent. Everything tasted fresh, well prepared, and thoughtfully done. It felt like comfort food with just the right amount of care put into it. Exactly what you want after a long flight.

Between the friendly service, great coffee, and solid breakfast, the whole experience just worked. We left feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day, and we would absolutely come back here on a future visit. Highly recommended if you are staying in or passing through the San José area.

We began with the most healthy and delicious Casado lunch. At the beginning of the tour we were introduced to the staff and other tour members. Our guide was the absolute awesome Jose. He was exceptionally friendly and informative. His knowledge is immense. At each stage of the tour he explained in detail not only the process of growing coffee but the social responsibility that the organization takes and the local and cultural awareness that accompanies the entire cooperative. The pride shows in every person that we met and with very good reason. We now know a great deal about the growing and roasting process but as much about the value of the cooperative is to Costa Rica. I am sure that all of the guides are excellent but Jose is exceptional. We have been on many many tours but this was by far the most valuable and impressive in the world. Go on this tour and you will know as much about coffee as the Tico Culture. By the way, the gift shop is excellent and they ship as well at very reasonable rates. There is nothing that we can think of to improve here. Thank you Cafe Monteverde!!! An especial thanks to Jose!!! Pura Vida!!

My sister and I went here for brunch …. If you’re looking for a quaint place with outdoor experience this is your place. The food is delicious and if you are a coffee snob like myself, you won’t be disappointed. Coffee selection range from Americano to coffee chai. I tried the Coffee chai – unique and different. Would do it again.
