I have a shellfish allergy that’s anaphylactic (I know, I know. Shellfish allergy going to a sushi restaurant ) but the owner Derek always accommodates and makes sure there’s no cross contamination. My children 6yF and 7yM also enjoy coming here. While my son is on the spectrum, and struggles with ARFID, I’m so pleased that Sushi Cortaro has options for him to eat, and even try! We first indulge with our eyes, and presentation is BEAUTIFUL! Whether you come for a nice date or a family outting, SUSHI CORTARO makes the moment memorable. Coming from Hawaii with fresh fish, and struggling to find decent quality for your buck, here in the mainland, specifically Tucson, sushi Cortaro is the spot. Our whole boat and meal was under 100$ for 4 people!
The atmosphere is calmer in the afternoons, but dinners are also nice, and a little more lively with more customers. I can go on and on about this place because I love it so much, but you have your own opinions and I urge you to drop by and try something. They have daily deals for lunch, with different rolls on sale for those that are new to sushi and want to attempt a different flavor or texture without the full price of a roll. Never disappointed! 11/10 fs
There are a few things in life I truly cherish — kind people, masters of their craft, and food that feels like an experience. This sushi haven embodies all of it. Every piece that graces the plate is a masterpiece — a perfect harmony of flavor, texture, and presentation. You can feel the passion, precision, and years of dedication behind each creation.
The atmosphere is elegant yet inviting, the service effortlessly refined. It’s not just sushi — it’s culinary poetry. If you appreciate excellence and artistry, this is the kind of place that lingers in your memory long after the last bite.
Personal Favorites: Freshwater Eel Nigiri, New Orleans Roll, Crazy Tuna Roll
I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for your standard american sushi offerings, just be prepared to wait for a table to open up.
Our server’s name was Kyle and was everything anyone would want in a server: personable, knowledgeable, professional, attentive, an active listener…you name it. The right amount of engagement, humor, table check backs, etc. and it was obvious he knew how to “read” his tables as tables around us seemed to also appreciate and respond to his warmth and professionalism.
We both come from decades of restaurant and retail experience where we were instrumental in the training of employees to ensure guests and customers felt valued and would come back. Please pass this feedback onto him – too often customers will tell you what’s wrong but in this case, Kyle did EVERYTHING right.
This young man is a gem and is a wonderful reflection of your restaurant. We hope to be back soon for another yummy lunch – in Kyle’s section of course!
