This place was pretty good to eat at. I came inside and already felt the vibe of a typical Bengali restaurant. There was a large menu in the back of the register with a Long Island table for multiple orders to come through. The freezer on the right side providing drinks such as laza, yogurt, sparkling water, etc. The kitchen in the back with the constantly working staff with steam all up in the air you can see while you’re eating your meal which took about 10 minutes to come. The waiter himself was a relatively nice guy who offered a lot to us while we sat down and enjoyed our meal. Plenty of tables to go around with chairs everywhere even having stacks of chairs on the side just in case people come in for birthday specials as such. I paid about $15 for a big chicken kebab over brown rice served with salad and bread on the side. The tables already came stacked with white sauce which was so good and they even offer free takeaway bags and sauces on the aside such as green, hot/spicy etc. The drink variety could be a bit better as there was only 2 soda offers Pepsi and Sunkist. Other than that I say the place was quite nice to eat at.

Bakhtar Halal Kabab is an Afghan restaurant known for its halal dishes and authentic flavors, particularly its kababs.
We had Combination No2 One chicken tikka, beef kufta and lamb tikka with rice, bread and salads. And Chicken fry with fries and salads. Their combination no 2 was really enough for 1 person and if u order other item so it’s more than enough for 2. It was delicious and true Afghan cuisine experience, with tender meats and aromatic spices. They emphasizes that its food is 100% halal, adhering to strict guidelines in food preparation.

Bakhter is a family favorite! We love their rice platters and their double cheeseburgers, they are absolutely delicious!
The food is cooked fresh so it does take some time before they serve it to you but it’s worth the wait. The atmosphere is similar to a fast food, you seat yourself and order at the register and they’ll bring you your food once it’s ready.
It’s a must-visit for anyone craving a satisfying meal.

The food at Bakhter (fresh meadows location) is literally by far the best Afghani food I have ever had in all of NY. I’ve tried so many different spots and kid you not this is #1. The flavor is on point, the meat- chicken tikka and chicken kofta kabob are superb. Their rice is addictive. Their service is phenomenal- there are multiple times that I’ve catered to small family gatherings very last-minute and I call them and they have everything ready for me within 20-30mins. Their front desk staff are friendly. The restaurant is big but its never full- I truly think that the location is apart of that because its so hidden – I don’t think too many people know about it. Its a hidden gem. Definetly try it out- you wont regret it!

Hole in the wall Afghani restaurant in Long Island, NY. Very no-frills atmosphere with self service seating; only cash is accepted FYI.
Got the combo #2 which came with one skewer of beef kebab, one skewer of lamb tikka kebab and one skewer of chicken tikka kebab along with another combo (#24??) that came with one skewer of beef kebab and their *very spicy* skewer of chicken kebab. They also included complementary salad and bread.
The kebabs were grilled to perfection and it was an amazing value for the quantity of food with respect to the price we paid. Less than $20 per person.
Overall:
Chicken kabab (spicy): 7/10
Beef kabab: 9/10
Lamb tikka kabab: 5/10 —> too chewy
Chicken tikka kabab: 10/10

I’ve been coming to Bakhter for over 20 years now, to the point where a family visit to this location for dinner is now a monthly occasion for us. The community knows of this place and it’s a favorite local spot for many people all over. The store is owned by a friendly hospitable man from Afghanistan, and his staff which at times can be over burdened with a dinner rush, are quite capable and understanding. I always have the #6, and my father always has the #6 with Quabli often restating it reminds him of the polao back in Peshawar. The location only takes cash and if that is an issue there is an ATM at the entrance of the resturant. This is by far the cheapest resturant with the highest quality food at that price for me and my family. I’m grateful to the owner for keeping his prices steady with the rise of Inflation, making it possible to get a quality meal with good portions for under $10.
The place certainly shows it’s age, as it’s quite basic and at times slightly messy after a lunch time rush, however those things can be overlooked for the value gotten at this place. They also have a hall next door we have used a few times for catering if that’s something you’re interested on. All in all one of the best Afghani style restaurants in New York, I wish them continued success.

GARBAGE. Do NOT come here unless it’s to give these men feedback on poor quality of food (which they will definitely brush off and not listen to). Some of the counter guys are rude with no manners. Meat is okay but not like it use
to be. A FEW YEARS AGO this place was AUTHENTIC and food was MAGIC!! I don’t know what happened but the rice is horrible quality. They changed it to some oily brown rice that has WAY TOO MUCH CUMIN SEED (zeera) and refuse to use less, it’s beyond me why they don’t take customer feedback. Seems more Bengali style than afghan. And they never change it back to the old rice and style no matter how respectfully I tell them. OTHER PEOPLE NEED TO SPEAK UP. BRING BACK THE OLD BAKHTER AUTHENTICITY!! Go back to old rice. I use to go OUT OF MY WAY for this food that’s how good it use to be. Now I don’t even want to look at or taste their rice. I only come for the meat and snacks! AT LEAST introduce a dish to the menu that is PLAIN RICE if you’re chef won’t take the feedback! USE to be authentic Afghan cuisine. Now it’s silly to even compare it

Food taste is good but service wasn’t that warm. Maybe they didn’t have that much people to serve. Temperature and environment was okay to eat but didn’t feel that warmth as it was a February still chilly. We took two platter of family combo, with lots of meat, comes with four different types of kebab and rice. Portion was good enough for two families with three kids. Didn’t stay longer as it was cold, didn’t check their desert items. And yes they have take out options. But not sure if they do delivery or GrubHub.
