Reviews
The toilets are a bit grim. The toilet seats are the main problem in the ladies’ because they don’t fit the toilets. Could be easily remedied by the restaurant. Just make sure you empty your bowels before going here.
My rating is given for the food. Service was good too.
The food is fresh and tasty. The menu is varied and the presentation is decent. I like they also give proper sized drinks too not those tiny 1 sip 200ml glasses.
Only very minor issue would be they only do salmon sashimi, no other sashimi was available which is a shame. The sushi dishes (nigiri, hand rolls, maki) were all a bit rice heavy, although maybe it’s not profitable at £25pp.
Beef Yakitory, eel nigiri, salmon nigiri and pork tonkatsu were my top picks.
The ebi tempura felt a bit soggy and the batter not crisp enough, like they soaked up too much oil, so we’re not my favourite.
The service was quick and attentive, making sure that I have water in my glass, orders are served on promised time, and quickly cleans the table as soon as food has been consumed. I don’t like the last one because it sends a message that they want us to leave as soon as possible. The restaurant wasn’t even busy that day. The interior of the restaurant is so dark – it must be because of the black walls and the color combination of red and black.
Firstly, we had the, all you can eat, so the menu was different (maybe the a la carte is better). I enjoyed the process of scanning the QR and selecting 6 hot dishes and 6 sushi dishes every 15 minutes for your 90-minute duration.
The seaweed was the chewiest I’ve been served, the children peeled it off. The hot dishes were better, but the kimchi rice was stodgy and lacked any flavour. The sashimi was also low quality cuts.
If the food is poor at a restaurant, it doesn’t really matter about the other notable items. However, in this case, it was also incredibly tired. There was stock, extra chairs, and tables piled on the restaurant floor. The toliets were no better. There were sections of units missing and it had exposed pipework.
As you can see in the video, there were also small flies that were there the entire time, even after removing a few.
Overall, it wasn’t worth the £100+ bill for two dry adults, one child and a baby.
Unfortunately this restaurant is nowhere as good as the other locations which was a shame. The food was okay but not the best. My favourite sushi to get is usually the egg omelette nigiri but it disappointed me when we received it. For some reason the omelette was triangle shaped and very thick compared to the usual rectangles they are at the other locations, which isn’t too bad but I’m autistic and the change threw me off. Two of the omelette pieces also had some sort of green paste(?) on them which I assume is avocado from another sushi, but I had to give those pieces to my boyfriend because it was a bit scary and I was scared it was mold(he said it was fine).
All of the nigiri we ordered had a weirdly small amount of rice compared to what you usually have with nigiri from any sushi place. It threw off the ratio of fish to rice and it wasn’t great. Most of the other food we had was good just could do with a little bit more sauce/flavour.
The piece of katsu chicken I had felt a little chewy and was maybe a little undercooked? However my boyfriend ate the rest and didn’t seem to notice so it may have just been me being paranoid after the nigiri.
The staff were really lovely and friendly which was nice and we were given water as soon as we were sat down. They also let us take a lollipop each as we left! The restaurant itself was quite empty with about maybe four other tables with people sitting at them. The service was pretty fast which was great.
The women’s toilets weren’t great. At first it looks like a nice bathroom but then when you’re actually in there it seems quite run down almost. The doors to the cubicles are really close to the toilet seat and its a little difficult to get in and out easily. There were toilet rolls everywhere but on the toilet roll holder which was fine but a little weird.
Overall it was okay but I can’t say I will return to this location.
Interior is very dark, worn furniture, the place feels tired.
We had a lovely young server who was friendly. I felt I had wasted £60 on lunch, wished I went elsewhere.
Would not recommend and will not return.
The service at Sushimania was exceptional. Our waitress, Rebecca, was very fast and friendly. She was attentive to our needs and made sure that our glasses were always filled with water and drinks. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made some excellent recommendations.
The restaurant was not busy on the afternoon we went, so we were seated quickly and comfortably. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect, with dim lighting and comfortable seating. It was a great place to relax and enjoy some delicious food.
Now, let’s talk about the food! We ordered a variety of dishes, including tuna rolls, fried chicken, seaweed salad, kimchi, salmon sashimi, and red wine and beer. Everything was fresh and delicious, and we were able to order as much as we wanted. The sushi rolls were especially tasty, with the rice cooked to perfection and the fish incredibly fresh.
We were so impressed with the food that we decided to order more. The menu had a great selection of sushi rolls, sashimi, and other dishes to choose from, so we were spoilt for choice. We also loved the fact that we could order drinks with our meal, including red wine and beer, which added to the overall experience.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Sushimania in Brighton to anyone who loves sushi. The food is excellent, the service is fast and friendly, and the overall experience is outstanding. We will definitely be coming back to try more of their delicious dishes!
