Story — Uncles’ Local Diner

Growing up as a farm kid in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Uncle Daryll learned early on that a good meal and a strong cup of coffee can make or break your day.

Great little diner in the heart of Hancock!
Plenty of seating, cozy and friendly.
Great menu options with local coffee, and “unc’s” special sauce on certain items.
The Uncle’s omelette was delicious. Perfectly cooked. Fair prices and great service.
I look forward to coming back!

Super cute diner! We also got a mega cinnamon roll but we ate it too fast to get a good picture because it was delicious! I loved the Wake U.P bowl and the hot sauce. The staff was super friendly too. The coffee was ok… there were two types a $3 and a $4 and that was a little confusing, but the food was excellent!

Uncle’s diner was great! The inside of the restaurant is clean and bright. They have an easy to read menu. Our waitress, Rose, was great! The service was fast and the food was so good! Highly recommend the breakfast bowl or omelette. We will be back! 10/10.

Quaint little dinner/cafe. Chicken sandwich was great as well as the Ruben Panini. Fries were good too.

Spot on with a diner atmosphere. Stylish diner interior, great music selection, great staff. Wait staff was very attentive. Kitchen staff was working hard in the back every time I’ve stopped in. The Cuban Panini with a side of Uncs sauce goes perfectly with a crisp, cold fountain Coke. Will be back for more!

Bottom line up front: would not recommend. Likely will not return. I applaud anyone in this area who attempts to open a restaurant. Thank you! However, there were several glaring weaknesses in the offerings. 1) the sausage in the sausage gravy was burned to an inch of being mini charcoal briquettes bathed in a tasteless white sauce. 2) biscuits were dry, tasteless, and tough. 3) tater tots were served room temperature. 4) coffee is glorified brown water (though I realize that is somewhat of a delicacy in these parts). I feel bad leaving this review in such a small town, but improvements are possible.

We had Sunday brunch and no complaints! Pancakes were huge sweetcakes! I loved them, so did my preschooler. Bacon, scrambled eggs, and coffee were good, too! Not the cheapest breakfast around, but definitely will return. Thanks for being here, Uncle’s!

Such a cute little spot! My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast on our anniversary vacation. We came from downriver michigan area. We loved the decor on the walls. The food was so good and we felt like family the second we walked in. My husband got an omelet with the “Unc Sauce” and said it was so good and wished we went back to get it on a burger!

On top of real good food, our waitress was a peach and everyone in there was so incredibly nice. Not one person wasn’t smiling. My husband left with a new mug, and I got a day old cinnamon bun for the road and it was amazing. I can’t imagine what the fresh ones tasted like then! We will be back just to taste that out alone!

Thank you!!!❤️

Good food, great service, cozy atmosphere. The coffee was delicious. My ONLY negative was that it was a bit pricey in my estimation. Their housemade hot sauce was VERY good and they sell bottles of it, but they asked $12 a bottle. I bought it because I liked it so much and could afford it, but thought it was a bit much. I get soaking the tourists (which we were) during tourist season a bit – you kind of expect that in the U.P. – but it was a little disappointing for this great place to eat. Overall very much worth stopping in.

A definite improvement from the old Kaleva, but still not nearly as good as Suomi. Food took a long time to come out, and nobody was overly friendly. Food tasted fine, but wasn’t anything I’d rush back for.
