Marlon is amazing! Knows how to pour a drink. We had the super sampler. All the meats were delicious. Ribs falling off the bone, sausage was juicy and tasty, enjoyed the boiled peanuts & Brunswick stew. The service is kind, friendly and fast. Atmosphere is inviting and comfy. Heat was plentiful on a rainy day.

Big portions of decent BBQ. Seems like the sausage was a cold leftover that was deep fried when I ordered it, which made it rubbery abs but tasty. The brisket, greens, beans, and Mac & cheese was serviceable. Sauces were hard to tell apart. The chicken sauce is mayo-based (as stated) and left at room temperature. Might be fine, but I didn’t try it to find out. Fun atmosphere, and probably fun on warm sunny days to sit outside. I’m not sure I’d go back.

On a holiday visit from Florida, we got a true southern welcome from proprietor Lewis Donald during a stopover for a taste of this legendary local BBQ. Sweet Lew’s brisket does not disappoint. The side of Mac and cheese was true to form with southern flair and flavor that can only come from a hometown local haunt like this one. The facility is impeccably clean, with the distinct aromas from smoked meats abound in this eclectic location. Make this a stop on your next pass thru for Fast, friendly hometown service for slow cooked meats in the Belmont neighborhood in the heart of downtown Charlotte. #highlyrecommend

Went with the two-meat platter and two sides.
The brisket was fantastic — tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sausage was decent, while the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and perfectly baked with that classic Southern comfort taste. The coleslaw was excellent too, with just the right balance of creaminess. All the sauces were tasty as well.

Wife and I had lunch here and enjoyed the BBQ! For meats we tried the- brisket, pork, turkey. With sides of beans, Brunswick stew, and hash. Turkey was probably our favorite meat though the brisket had a really good bark on it. Both the hash and stews had a lot of flavor and we’d Def eat both again. Tried all the sauces that we saw. I preferred the mayo based one and the tangy one next. Glad to have options! Staff were very informative and the layout was great with lots of memorabilia in the store. We saw a bar area and also some outside seating.

Came here for the first time and was politely greeted by the owner. Made me feel really welcome. The food was amazing! You can tell it was made with love. The sauces they offer is amazing as well Wow!!! I can’t wait to bring my family here especially my dad and brothers. Hands down one of the best BBQ in North Carolina. I have been to alot of bbq but this place has stolen my heart. Thank you so much!

I have never been somewhere my wife was able to order so quickly lol I had a great experience here the meat was so tender and I loved the thick bark. Mac and cheese was wonderful too! This has the feel of an old school bbq joint. There are plenty of TVs to watch the game. I got a feeling most of the customers are regulars they all seem to know each other which confirms how good this place is. I’d add Sweet Lews to my listen of bbq destinations. Also I really appreciated all the sauces they had. I tried several and they all hit the spot.

We had high hopes for Sweet Lew’s BBQ. We were out and about in Charlotte and looking for a lunch spot we hadn’t tried yet. As soon as we parked and exited our car, the smells got you and it smelled really good. When we got inside to the counter to order, the lady working couldn’t give us any recommendations and advised she didn’t eat pork, which we both thought was a little odd considering she worked at a BBQ joint. Anyways, we ended up ordering a 3 meat plate to share, brisket, chopped pork and pork ribs. The brisket was extra tender but didn’t have much flavor. The ribs were pretty tender but again, didn’t have much flavor. Now the chopped pork, I’ve never had any before that smelled and tasted like tuna. I had one bite and couldn’t eat anymore. We also tend to go to bbq places where the meats have a lot of flavor and you don’t need to load up with sauces to enjoy the flavors. Maybe Sweet Lew’s isn’t like that.
Again, after reading many reviews, we had high hopes but in our opinion, it’s not what we like and will not be going back.

Sweet Lew’s is hands down and I’ll die on this hill the best BBQ in Charlotte! Every single thing was cooked to absolute perfection. The ribs were Flintstone-sized, the fried flounder literally melted in my mouth no sauces or condiments needed. And trust me, I’m the queen of tartar sauce and hot sauce when it comes to a fish fry, so that says a lot!
The mac and cheese tasted like family cookout comfort food creamy, cheesy, and unforgettable. The collard greens? Spot on. The potato salad was good, but not a standout I’d go for the greens every time.
Overall, this place is an easy 10/10. After living in North Carolina for 9 years, this is by far the best I’ve had. If I could eat here every day, I would.

I just had an uber eats order. This Mac n cheese is absolutely vile. It is overcooked, dry and just nasty. I am extremely disappointed that you all serve this to your customers. The meat looks overcooked as well, but the Mac n cheese is the worst part.
