** NOT HOME COOKING **
Well just stopped into this place and yet another “HOME COUNTRY COOKING” that doesn’t actually do home cooking. I get excited when I think I find a good true home style cooking place, born and raised in Dayton, so I’m a local. First thing I ask when I walk into a place like this for breakfast

“DOES YOUR GRAVY COME FROM A PACKET”
If they answer yes, then you can not trust any other cooking. It’s probably all frozen cheap foods and not actually home made. Hate to see another disappointment. Needless to say I turned around and left without eating.

Ordered the 14 oz sirloin (medium rare), with pinto beans, mashed potatoes and a side of fries. Everything was good, but nothing was great. The steak was especially disappointing. Good flavor, but full of silverskin, and quite tough, despite being quite raw with a good char. Almost as if thrown on the grill frozen.
I took my meal to go, but what service I had was great, the ladies were sweet and polite with good humor.
Atmosphere was nice, bright and felt like I was dining at my buddy’s cabin.

Don’t believe the ratings. This is not even a 3. The food is boring. It has no seasoning nor flavor. The portions are small and the prices are high. $11.95 for a meat and three is outrageous even if it tasted good and was twice the size. The Mac & cheese is soupy, the potatoes are runny, and the green beans are mushy. The chili burger said it had homemade chili but our bet was that it was from a can. Previous photos show crinkle cut fries but they are no longer available. The iced tea is higher than Cracker Barrel’s. We drove 70 miles for this highly recommended restaurant. I wouldn’t come back if it was the only place open on Sunday.

Great little place! Came in and on a quiet night, the parking lot was packed, everyone was enjoying their food but despite the crowd, service was prompt and the food came out quickly! The shrimp and grits and fried chicken were phenomenal. The brisket sandwich and the beef liver were good too. Cannot recommend higher!

⚪ Wimpies Country Restaurant is a small hidden gem for classic Southern comfort food. My friend and I stopped in for lunch, and we couldn’t have been happier with our meal.

I had the smothered grilled chicken, which was perfectly cooked and covered in a rich, flavorful gravy. The cornbread muffins were outstanding—moist, slightly sweet, and just the right texture. My friend ordered the hamburger steak, which came with all the fixings and was cooked to perfection. Every bite was packed with homestyle flavor.

Our server, Jamie S, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. The atmosphere was warm, rustic, and full of country charm, making it the perfect place to enjoy a hearty meal and good conversation.

If you’re looking for real down-home cooking with top-notch service in a cozy, rustic setting, Wimpies is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back!

GO VOLS!!!

This is a hole in the wall for sure. If you want pristine it’s not for you. However the food is great, staff lovely and friendly. It’s full of locals up in ages but it’s quaint and is well worth supporting. Definitely a mom and pop feel. The pancakes are the size of a hubcap so one is more than enough for most people.
