I got Thai chicken kabobs and roasted cauliflower. Husband had thai short ribs.
Ordered a rueban and fries with a beer, the fries were very good and crispy, it’s impossible to mess up a beer from a bottle, so that was great as well, but the rueban was very mediocre. The corned beef was extremely tough and chewy, to the point I couldn’t take a bite of the sandwich without pulling out more than I had tried to bite off. The flavor was just okay, nothing special, not very good, but not very bad.
Id be interested in trying some other menu items in the future if I’m ever in the area again.
Vibe:
The atmosphere is amazing. Cozy, lively, and always buzzing. It is almost always busy, which says a lot, but it never feels chaotic. It is the kind of place that feels just as good for a casual weeknight as it does for meeting friends.
Our favorites to order:
-Asian fries
-Parmesan spinach dip
-Walleye sandwich
Food:
Everything we have ordered here has been consistently good. The Asian fries are a must and perfect for sharing. The parmesan spinach dip is rich, comforting, and always a solid choice. The walleye sandwich is one of our favorites and something we keep coming back for. Whether you are ordering apps, pizza, or a full meal, the menu has something for everyone.
Drinks:
They have great drinks and a well-rounded drink menu. It is an easy place to stop in just for a drink or stay longer and turn it into dinner.
Specials:
They run some really good specials throughout the week, which makes it even better. It is one of those places where you learn your favorite days to go and keep them to yourself.
Overall:
9.5/10. A reliable neighborhood favorite with great food, drinks, and atmosphere.
For the Asian fries, having boneless short rib on top of the fries was a good idea as it offered the option to have succulent meat on top of the fries. However, the thai sauce became too potent as I started finishing the fries on the top, and started dominating the taste, to the point that it became too sweet eventually. I think reducing the amount of sauce, or spreading the sauce around more, would help all the fries obtain that sweetness the sauce provides, and not make one part of the dish too much while another part not enough.
I have had the Philly as well, along with onion rings as the side. The onion rings had way too much dough outside the onions, and one bite felt like I was mainly tasting fried dough. The best part about the sandwich was the bread, as it had an adequate amount of crunch along with a toasted taste. The roast beef was overall pretty good as well. The onion pieces were a bit too small, while the green pepper pieces were undercooked so they were a bit hard. The proolone cheese was all on top and unfortunately did not mesh with everything else in the sandwich, to the point that I actually was able to remove the cheese by itself away from the sandwich. I would love to see the cheese mixed within everything else to become an integral part of the sandwich instead.
For the ice cream sandwich, the idea is great, as the cookies along with the ice cream offered two kinds of sweets. Letting it last for a bit longer before eating made it better because as the cookies softened, one pierce with the fork allowed my friend and me to eat both the cookie and the ice cream in one bite.
I must also mention that the place can get very noisy in the evening. My friend and I went on a Friday evening at around 7:30pm and it was very loud. This is just neutral information and something for people who intend to go there consider what vibe they are looking for.
We ordered apps and a pizza.. she did not bring out silverware or small plates. Our glasses were empty more often than they were full. At one point, I had to physically turn around to ask her for refills because she opted to clear the recently departed table behind us instead of refilling our glasses. Bear in mind, she had to walk directly past both of our empty glasses at the edge of our table in order to go clear the empty table. This was as the restaurant was clearing out as well, there was no line of people waiting for a table or anything, she just simply didn’t care to check in with us. She also never once stopped after our food was dropped to see if we needed anything else.
For what it’s worth, I think she was just bad at her job in general. She was more friendly to others, but also messed up the food order of the table next to us. Overall, the food was good, but, for the price, I won’t be back because of how truly terrible the service was.
