Hands down the best Indian/himalayan food I’ve tried anywhere! Been coming here for over a decade and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the chicken makhani (butter chicken), their tandoori chicken is baked to perfection, the naan is incredible, and the chili potatoes are so delicious. Their weekday big plate at $9.99 is a great value, however, their lunch buffet on saturdays and sundays starting at noon is the star of the show, and lets you try a variety of delicacies.

The food here is consistently awesome tasting, and the portions are big enough that I take home leftovers for 1 or 2 lunches. Our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful with advice when asked. The restaurant is small and lovely. On a night midweek it was not overly full so we were treated kindly during a longish stay as we two women caught up with each other’s lives. Eat there! You’ll be glad you did!

Stopped by for a quick weekday lunch, hoping for a repeat of the great experience I had at their South Loop location. Unfortunately, the Niles branch didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered the Paneer Tikka, which was served on a sizzling plate, but the paneer was disappointingly tough and lacked the signature smoky flavor and spices the dish is known for. I also tried the lunch combo with Palak Paneer and Dal Makhni, served with naan and pulao rice. While the naan was soft and well-made, the curries fell flat — missing the depth and richness typically associated with Indian cuisine. The Gulab Jamun included as dessert was decent, but overall, the meal didn’t quite hit the mark.

Best Indian food I’ve had. The Tikka Masalas are especially good, paneer and chicken. Dipping the naan in the sauce is very tasty. Try the mango lassi, a delicious drink. I’ve tried their other dishes and have not been disappointed.

Just moved back to Niles was trying to find a new Indian restaurant. I called in to see what they recommend. Labina answer the phone and was patient and helped me thoroughly. She appreciated me calling and made sure I was taken care of. I got the lamb tikka masala, chicken biryani, chicken momo, butter naan, gulab jamun, and the mango lassi. ALL WERE DELICIOUS!!! I had no complaints whatsoever which is a very rare trait for any restaurant. I was shocked on the hospitality and impressed with the food. Thank you Labina, and thank you to the whole Himalayan restaurant. I will definitely be returning to try more!

If you like Indian food, do not eat Himalayan Restaurant.

For an appetizer, I had samosas, which were so-so but a bit of a disappointing start. I tried not to be discouraged though because I’ve had Indian food before with so-so samosas where the entrees were ultimately very good.

Unfortunately, the samosas proved to be the best part of the meal, by far. I had the fish curry, very spicy. The spice level was fine, although I would have liked it a bit spicier. But that’s where the flavor ended. The sauce was very liquidy and tasted almost watered down. The fish wasn’t tender at all.

My wife had the Dal Tadka, mild. The only flavor you could taste was garlic, so much garlic. It was otherwise completely flavorless, like an oily paste seasoned with half a bottle of garlic powder.

Not even the naan redeemed the meal. It was flat and not remotely soft– more like flatbread than naan.

I hate being this harsh on a restaurant, but when you’re paying this much for a dinner, this level of quality is unacceptable.

UPDATE REVIEW 09/25/2025 This has always been one of my favorite restaurants for Indian food, and I’ve told so many people about it. I went back today and was honestly so upset because my go-to dish, the paneer makhini, was nothing like it used to be. It literally just tasted like straight cream. I even asked them to remake it because I thought something was wrong, but it came out the same way.

I ended up just eating the other food we ordered, but it was such a disappointment because this has always been the dish I look forward to. I even showed them old photos from past visits compared to today and it was clearly different. The chef tried it and said it was the same, which shocked me because it really wasn’t.

I get that places can have off days, but this was really discouraging. As much as I’ve loved this restaurant, I don’t know if I’ll be back if the quality has dropped this much.

Disclaimer: I’ve been coming here for years, but the last few times I’ve come a few different waiters have told us if we pay a tip on a credit card it doesn’t go to them and the owner takes it. Ridiculous- please bring cash to tip the waiter, they deserve it!!

Himalayan is one of my favorite places to get Punjabi food – I love their paneer Makhni, vegetable biryani, and garlic naan! Everything tastes so fresh and is always very consistent with their flavors. Recently I tried out their lunch buffet and I was so disappointed – the food wasn’t good at all, didn’t taste fresh, and was pretty old. I won’t ever be going back for the buffet but instead, just order dine-in.

Himalayan Restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu filled with flavorful Indian and Nepali dishes, but the experience can be a bit uneven. The highlights are definitely the curries — rich, aromatic, and full of spice — and the naan, which comes out warm and fluffy. You can tell there’s real skill in the kitchen when everything clicks.

However, the consistency isn’t always there. Some dishes can arrive a bit lukewarm or over-salted, and service tends to fluctuate depending on how busy it is. The staff is polite but sometimes stretched thin, leading to longer wait times than expected.

The dining space itself is comfortable and inviting, with pleasant décor and music that sets a relaxed tone. Prices are reasonable for the area, especially for the portion sizes.

Overall, Himalayan Restaurant earns three stars — a decent meal with moments of excellence, but a few rough edges that keep it from being a true standout.

Very mediocre and disappointing food. Veg steamed momos were insipid / tasteless and gooey. Disappointed from the Momos honestly. Chicken Seesh Kebab was above average. Veg Biryani should have been called Veg Pulao and not Biryani. Surprisingly they did not have Veg Chowmein in the menu. Service is below average, waiters are frustrated. Don’t go there unless you really have to.
