Some seats are traditional sunken seats where it requires taking shoes off. Mostly for large groups (5 or more) but there are also small group seats like this.
There’s no cushion and it’s all hard wood. It’s not very comfortable after sitting for 30 min.
Food:
Great, everything we had was delicious.
Wide variety of dishes in the menu.
– Unagi meshi ❤️: all time favorite, best for large groups
– cheese pizzas ❤️: I like the yakiniku kochijan pizza more than the Mentaiko one. But both are good, with full mouth of melted cheese on top
– grilled beef tongue (gyutan shioyaki): tenderness is inconsistent by plate, we still liked it but some pieces are a bit chewy…
– hotate ikura carpaccio: pretty good!
– tako salad: good
– Curry beef tongue (forgot the name on menu. It was either new or special): it beef tongue cubes? I couldn’t taste the beef tongue in this dish. Curry is just regular Japanese curry flavor. I think it’s just ok.
– tori kara age (fried chicken): flavor is good but the outer crust is a bit thick
– Wafu Caesar salad: nothing special about this salad, unless you love caesar sauce
Service:
Great, takes out empty plates timely and attentive service 🙂
Atmosphere:
Lively, moderate noise
Just be aware that there’s an extra charge for bringing a cake here. But the fee is reasonable and they offer great service! Recommend for group meals!
The only shortcoming is – we don’t like the Japanese table setting: it’s not good for elder people since we can’t stretch our legs like a normal seats. But it shouldn’t be a problem for young people.
The service was good – nothing outstanding but friendly and not a long wait on a very busy night.
It is nice that the space is split into smaller areas. On a winter night the air was very stuffy and it took me awhile to adjust.
Sake Sashimi – The salmon is incredibly fresh with a smooth, almost jelly-like texture. Loved it.
Sakana Iroiro Salad – A nice Asian-fusion poke-style dish. The greens are especially flavorful, thanks to the creamy dressing.
Buta Meshi – Rich and tasty overall, though nothing particularly special. I’ve had Unagi before and found that more to my liking.
Hamachi Carpaccio – It’s definitely fresh and worth trying, though the flavor just didn’t click with me. Others might enjoy it more.
Gyutan Shioyaki – Very tough and hard to chew. Honestly not sure how people manage to eat it.
I’ve seen many recommendations to its pizza. Would probably try next time!
Note that you definitely want a reservation and will also only have 90 minutes for the reservation. The food came out pretty fast though so that wasn’t an issue for us.
