Cute but extremely pricey for the food quality which was mediocre at best. We are confused by the positive ratings. Our waitress was very unfriendly in general and seemed annoyed to even be there. My friend had the country fried steak with gravy and said it was just “ok.” The homemade jelly was not good, it tasted “off.” The eggs were supposed to be scrambled but were just a big round slab of cooked egg. I see others posting pictures of them and say that they liked them even though you can see they do not look scrambled. People think large portions make it a 5 star place but large portions do not make up for the poor taste and quality. I would prefer a smaller portion that tasted better than wasting half a plate of food because it is not worth taking home. We spent over $40 for two meals and one coke, were not happy with the service or the food, and then were hit with a surcharge for using a credit card. We won’t be going back and will tell our friends not to bother either.

Friendly people and good service. Food came out fairly quick. Pancakes are large but also thin but not too thin. The smell and flavor of the pancakes reminded me very much of Denny’s. If you like their pancakes, you will love these. I’m not the biggest fan of that style but I can’t hold that against them. Syrup was served hot and that’s always a win with me. Scrambled eggs with cheese were done well with plenty of cheddar. Hashbrowns were also done well with a little crisp but not overly crunchy. I probably should have went with one pancake and would have been very satisfied. No reservations with recommending this place to others. The Greek style omelette sounded amazing but I’m a pancakes person so…

This is a diner in every respect; table, chairs, bar, and decor very reminiscent of a small town diner. The rooster-themed decorations were fun and covered the walls, giving one much to take in. This is where the pleasant impression ends. Never having been in, we stood at the door looking for the, “Please seat yourself!” or the other signage that indicates to wait to be seated. We located neither before we received a brusk, “Sit anywhere” from a staff member. Our wait person was not particularly friendly, certainly not chatty, though we tried. After ordering, we sat and took in all the roosters on every decoratable surface and people-watched, as we do. The make up of the room was representative of the typical Montana town population, including the staff. We watched as the other wait person engaged with costumers in a positive manner; our’s however consistently treated all the customers on the floor with the same unfriendly disposition we had experienced.

When our food arrived with barely a word (we *were* informed about the flavor of the jam that was brought, which my spouse said “tasted like sunscreen”), we instantly became dumbstruck at the sight of my plate of food. I had ordered a simple meal of patty sausages with scrambled eggs. What I received was two, semi-dry, very thin pucks of meat, unceremoniously stacked along side an almost omelet-looking, flat mess of eggs. My definition of scrambled eggs does not require cutting before consumption while this was literally a slab of egg that I pierced on one end with a fork and lifted off the plate in its entirety. I felt sorry for the hen’s wasted effort in laying those eggs.

My spouse’s drink was refilled a couple times, so we knew we were being monitored even though we never received a follow-up inquiry on how the meal was.
As we finished up and discussed how common it has become for restaurants to continue increasing prices even as the food quality decreases at an even faster rate, we were forced to notice a new table being seated as the wait staff became more jovial.

I can’t say if these folks were regulars, or what, though I can’t help but wonder if it wasn’t a simple example of virtue signaling as our wait person instantly transformed from stiff and unfriendly to chatty and engaging; complete with big smiles and little pats on the shoulder of these demonstrably more desirable customers.

Here’s the thing… it shouldn’t matter who you are or what you look like, everyone in that diner deserved the same cheery greeting, smiles, and engagement that we witnessed as we left. It wouldn’t have made the food any better, but it would have improved what we only perceive as an entirely miserable experience.

Overall, this is a really cute place. The prices are too steep however, as the food quality is very poor. (Even the water has an unpleasant straight-from-the-tap after taste.) I hope they can turn things around; returning to the 50’s era attitude of making every customer interaction positive and pleasant is Customer Service 101 and should be seriously considered. Only then will the feeling of nostalgia this diner attempts to recreate can be achieved.

Really good food and service with one small exception… My father-in-law is a regular there and until he joined me I was only given water, after he joined me the server brought his usual beverage, I had to ask for coffee when we ordered the meal. She dropped by with his usual desert and then brought the bill. It was then I asked for desert, it wasn’t offered to me.

When locals are raving fans and ordering their “usual” – you are in the right place! She cooks all breads, soup and jams from scratch and breakfast is like going home and Mom just cooked for you. A refreshing find with owners who care.
