Everything was delicious. So I could care less about not getting cornbread.
This place knows exactly what it’s doing. The food shows up hot, generous, and clearly made with care. The meat was tender and rich, cooked the kind of way that tells you it wasn’t rushed. The mashed potatoes were smooth, buttery, and comforting, and the mac and cheese was creamy with real flavor, not just filler. Even the dessert felt thoughtful and balanced, not an afterthought.
Portion sizes are solid, especially for the quality you’re getting. Everything tasted like someone in the kitchen actually cares about how it leaves the door. This is the kind of meal you finish and immediately start thinking about when you’re coming back. Consistent, satisfying, and done right.
The lady that always behind the counter showed once again she has terrible customer service. She’s always annoyed, never smiling, and rude. I try supporting Black businesses but I won’t return to be treated poorly and worse have below average soul food.
I got on her nerve apparently because she didn’t want to give me the itemized receipt I asked for. She dramatically huffed and puffed then rolled her eyes.
Why? Because she knows her menu prices don’t match what she charges customers.
Case and point:
Chicken and Shrimp dinner
Menu: $20.50
Receipt: $22.00
On top of that she charges undisclosed credit card fees which is 3.5% of your total cost. My total ended up being $26.66 with a dinner and drink then once she ran it through it went up about $1.00 to $27.59.
In total it was about $2.50 extra she charged and it’s a small but DISHONEST. I don’t like businesses that are not transparent. It’s wrong. Then she has the nerve to have an attitude….please. You don’t get to take my money without telling me how you are allocating it.
It’s unfortunate to see someone leave such a personal and harsh review that clearly has more to do with their feelings toward Paula than the actual food or dining experience. Anyone who’s truly been to Paulas Soul Food Cafe knows this place is the real deal authentic flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming local favorite that speaks for itself through every plate served.
The review previous review reads more like a personal attack than a genuine critique. It says more about the reviewer’s grudge than the restaurant. For those who actually come for the food and the atmosphere, Paula’s Soul Food Cafe delivers exactly what you’d expect homestyle cooking that taste absolutely amazing. Especially their barbecue ribs lol.
Paula herself is passionate, hardworking, and takes pride in what she serves. I’ve seen her many times go above and beyond for customers who come there.
To the person who left the harsh comment, I genuinely wish you well and hope that whatever personal frustration inspired that review eases up soon. Negativity doesn’t reflect the spirit of this community or the soul of this establishment.
For everyone else: stop by, taste for yourself, and experience the hospitality and heart that make a true neighborhood treasure.
