I was using a knee scooter because of my fracture, and the attentive manager came to our table to make sure that I was comfortable.
These kind of people just make you feel more special.
We loved all the unique appetizers and drinks. They serve yummy welcome drinks as well.
I wish their paneer pinwheel’s gravy wasn’t that sweet.
Variety of indoor seatings available. Full bar.
Good for couples, date night, formal meetup, occasions. Service was responsive and OK.
Veggie/vegan options available.
Flat entry for accessible and parking could be difficult but free and paid street parking available. Reservation recommended but walk ins possible.
Review:
We went to ROOH, Palo Alto for dinner on my wifes birthday. The restaurant was quite crowded at around 7.30 pm on a Wednesday night, but we had a reservation and got in with no wait.
We started off with drinks, a kokam drink that my wife had and I had a non-alcoholic beer. The kokam drink was quite refreshing sort of a kokam soda with lime. I had seen many people recommend this one, and they were spot on.
Coming to the food, since it was just the two of us we stuck to the small plates and appetizers.
Charred Pepper and Cheese Kulcha: Basically a stuffed bread(kulcha). We loved this, right off the pan perfectly soft kulcha with a delicious stuffing.
Afghani Chicken Kulcha: A chicken version of the above. Quite disappointing compare to the cheese kulcha. Chicken stuffing was rather light, overcooked and not very flavorful.
Paneer Chilli Roll: Very disappointing. I am a paneer lover, but this dish had no saving grace. It was thinly sliced paneer wrapped in some thin, fried noodles with a slightly tangy sauce in between. Do not recommend.
Potato Tikki Chaat: Very creative presentation, and makeup of the dish. I dont think the tikki was fried, which was great and the yogurt was foamy.
Overall the creativity and ambience will being us back here for atleast another visit to try out more dishes.
The paneer pinwheel is much talked about, but I wasn’t personally impressed.
The lamb chops were super tender and I liked the butter chicken.
I thought it was overall an excellent meal and I’d come back.
ROOH is an exceptional restaurant that genuinely makes any celebration feel memorable.
From the moment you walk in, the ambience is unique and stunning—it creates a distinctive setting unlike any other. The commitment to quality is evident in every dish; the food is phenomenal, boasting great taste, artful presentation, and superb preparation.
A definite must-try are the cocktails. They offer an inventive and sophisticated spin on classics that set them apart from the competition.
Everything—from the atmosphere to the inventive drinks—was top-tier!
The drinks were all great. Loved the lavender drink served in my private little bathtub ☺️
As for the food, while the concept of modern Indian fusion is appreciated, many dishes failed to meet expectations in terms of taste. The creative presentation is nice, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of authentic flavor. For example, the Dahi Puri—priced at over $13 for six pieces—did not resemble traditional Dahi Puri in taste or experience. Portion sizes were also disappointing: the daal and rice barely served one person, yet are priced for more.
Drinks were okay—nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either.
If you enjoy spicy food, this may not be the place for you. Even after requesting extra spice, the dishes leaned noticeably sweet and lacked the expected heat.
The pricing overall felt steep, both for small and large plates, especially given the modest portions. That said, we did enjoy a few standout dishes like the Oyster Mushrooms and the Lamb Biryani.
Rooh has potential, but improvements in service speed, portion sizes, spice balance, and staying true to authentic flavors would go a long way in enhancing the overall experience.
