The wife and I went to the South Lake Tahoe area, and stayed at David Walley’s Resort. Sure, we went over the pass 3-4 times during our week stay to the lake, but we also discovered THIS gem while exploring the immediate area. We loved this place so much that we were impressed with ourselves the day that we did NOT make a stop by this bar, and perhaps we even stopped by twice if eating in Genoa. You walk in (by the way, look like a regular, and PUSH the very low doorknob, not pull like I did initially) and immediately know it is dripping with history, divey-ness, and awesomeness. The crowd comes in waves, as it is a popular drop-in for people coming through town as well as many very welcoming and friendly locals. Actually, I want to say again how awesome the regulars were. Not sure how I would feel if constant tourist dropped in my homestead, but everyone we talked to who was local was awesome and inviting. The bar had an IPA for me. They have a pool table. They have a jukebox (which defaulted to glam rock when we were there, so I LOVED that). They have cool merch. They have some awesome stuff on walls and ceiling. They have some fantastic mixed drinks, including one of the better Bloody Mary’s my wife has had as well as a unique, tasty hot drink (Hot Buttered Buccaneer Drink). They have a spacious outdoor area. They don’t have food, but we had a burger and burger salad (wife) from the food truck there, and it was stellar. The fries were great too. Back to the bar though. And, every bartender who served us during the week gave us friendly, efficient, perfect service. Once we realized that South Tahoe was irritatingly tourist overpopulated at this time of year, we decided to attend this cool candle-lighting tradition they did on NYE there instead of figuring out logistics over the pass. The event was SOOOO cool, and they even had a fun band later that night that they somehow packed into the jukebox corner.
Hope I don’t forget anyone. Whether you get Syd, Gabby, Candi, Dee, Carrie, or Ginger (the only one I didn’t meet personally), you will love your experience here. They were all rock stars during our visits. I can’t say enough good things about this bar, it really made “our South Tahoe trip,” and you should swing by if in the area. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in the area)…

A historic bar with personality with a varied client mix of tourists, motorcyclists on day trips, and cowboys. Walls are covered with various western artifacts or memorabilia, and overall decor is simple as a historic spot would be. Some irony that Nevada’s longest standing bar is across the street from Nevada’s first settlement at Mormon Station.
Service can be slow as staffing is thin, so consider going on non peak times- mid afternoons, week days or as winter nears.

Excellent stop on a lazy afternoon exploring Nevada! Town is very charming to meander through and this is the perfect place to stop for a libation. It was busy when I visited so service wasn’t the fastest but understandable as the bartenders were working hard. The memorabilia inside is fun so stay a while and explore, you’ll have a good laugh at half the stuff. Inside and outside seating available.

The oldest bar in the West. Fun old bar (full bar) with tons of history and memorabilia on the walls. 5 minutes off 395. A small little town Genoa with a couple of stores across street and the Pink House to eat at. Go have a drink, worth the visit

Nevada’s oldest saloon is the cutest place, so much history it really takes you back. Stopped in for an afternoon drink on the way to Lake Tahoe and enjoyed their outdoor seating area. Really nice to see history preserved for future generations.

This is an absolute MUST STOP for anyone passing through the area on their way to Tahoe or otherwise. I mean, it’s the oldest saloon in Nevada and it’s just brimming with cool factor. The historic building it resides in just oozes with charm and you really need to spend some quality time looking at all the cool photos and doodads all over the walls. Of course, the main reason to come to a fine watering hole like this is to quench your thirst and I can assure you, they have a fine selection of beers on tap, wines, whiskeys and more and they can make plenty of great cocktails including a Picon Punch – the official Northern Nevada drink! Come with friends if you can as it’s always a great time here regardless of what time you show up and at night, there’s often live music and tons of people cutting up the rug. Need I say, I highly recommend you paying this fine establishment.

Great place to slake your thirst on a chilly January afternoon. Friendly service and great 1800s ambiance. Huge amount of outdoor seating with a porch bar! Specialty cocktails look very refreshing though i just had a Bulleit bourbon.

This is Nevada’s oldest thirst parlor. It was established in 1853 inside the walls are covered in historical pictures and artifacts along with variety of burlesque pictures. This is a super fun bar! They have great indoor and outdoor seating. The bartenders are extremely friendly and hard-working. Lots of locals drink here and if you’re nice they’ll tell you a few stories. They have a great drink selection. I highly recommend the watermelon whiskey sour. This is a must stop if you visit Genoa.
