The staff is unprofessional. They’re rude to the customers, and I saw them be rude to senior citizens, which is crazy to me. I had two sides with my baked chicken, macaroni and cheese and yams. Everything tasted good much better than Motor City soul food. I think Motor City soul food uses canned food now I will be returning to Me B’s

I attempted to stay loyal to this establishment, having been highly satisfied the 1st two visits but it has gone down hill for the last 3 consecutive visits so today I must say “I’m done”. Let’s star with initially I went to breakfast they were out of coffee (at breakfast) made an excuse, ok no problem. On to the next visit, out of toast, and jelly, and over priced , but today is it!!! shrimp and grits with whole cherry tomatoes (not even cut on both ends)?were they even washed and then huge veins in the shrimp (in-deveined) with the tail still attached! Please do better, you just lost a loyal customer!

We were visiting from Ohio and decided to give it a try and were not disappointed! I got what I saw available in the window which were wings, yams and greens to go and everything was to my liking.

I loved it. The food was fantastic; got catfish and asked for side recommendations with it, got candied yams and fries. Everything was delicious.

The front desk lady was very polite, I even asked for a bottle of water afterward and she gave me one on the house.

I just wish there was a bathroom but I understand why not given the area. As someone not familiar with Detroit or soul food, this place was great.

⭐ Review for Mr. B’s Soul Food on McNichols

It was freezing cold outside, but I wanted to grab something to eat before going in for the day, so I stopped by Mr. B’s and ordered my usual: wings, mac and cheese, and greens.

When I got home and started eating, I immediately noticed something was off. The mac and cheese tasted very different from usual. I took another bite and the taste was horrible—it smelled and tasted spoiled. I couldn’t eat it.

I took it back to the restaurant and explained the situation. While I was there, another customer said he was going to pass on the mac and cheese. What shocked me was that the staff removed the mac from his container but put other food back into the same container instead of giving him a fresh one. That didn’t seem sanitary, especially since the mac already appeared spoiled.

Even more concerning, the macaroni was never removed from the serving case. My takeaway was that it might still be served to other customers, which could potentially make someone sick.

I really hope this is taken seriously because food safety and cleanliness should always be taken seriously.

P.S. you know it was bad it I went back out in the COLD!!!!!

I should’ve read the reviews first. But I didn’t…. We traveled from Southwest Michigan to try the Soul Food here!

On Sunday it’s cash only! Had to find an ATM to get cash. Went back to order food it was very limited items to pick from. I ordered a Fried Chicken Dinner (Greens & Green Beans and potatoes) and a Baked Chicken Dinner (Greens and Broccoli) and two peach cobblers. It came to $45.58.

When they handed us the food we looked in the bag for plastic ware. Asked the cashier she acted like she was looking for some. And said “Oh we must be out of it”. So we drove to a family dollar to get some plastic ware. Only to find out they gave us 2 baked chicken dinners. We were not turning around to have it corrected. At this point it was clear we should’ve just bought KFC. SMH.

The Baked Chicken was dry! And the Greens were alright. The broccoli has a strange almost musty taste. The Green Beans with Potatoes were alright. The Cold Peach Cobbler was actually good.

I would honestly only return for Peach Cobbler! Nothing else.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Doesn’t Cater to the Customer

I was really disappointed with my experience at this soul food restaurant. The food itself is okay, but the way they handle customer requests is frustrating and unaccommodating. It feels like they care more about sticking to their rules than making sure people leave happy.

For example, when they ran out of certain sides, instead of offering a simple substitute or a small discount, they tried to charge extra for a double portion of something else. That’s not good customer service — that’s taking advantage of the situation. On top of that, they won’t allow any mix-and-match options for meat, even when you’re willing to pay the difference. It’s soul food — flexibility and hospitality should be part of the experience!

Sometimes customers just want small adjustments to make their meal right, but here it seems like they’re not interested in working with you at all. A restaurant that doesn’t listen to its customers or try to make things right loses the heart of what soul food is supposed to be about.

It was my first time in Mr. B’s. The young lady threw my order in a carousel, turned it towards me and walked away. I said “ma’am is this my order?” She never said a word. I got the order and looked at the first two containers, they were right. Got home, and the third container was NOT what I ordered. If ONLY we could get good customer service. If only! The food was good, service horrible!!!

First time here, had tasted sides in the past and the greens were delicious! They still were this visit. They really skimped on the corned beef… one slice and the other looked like crumbles, asked for smothered pork chop, they poured gravy (which was a very nice browned gravy) over the fried pork chops (which were seasoned very well) . Unfortunately I didn’t pay attention to the time they were to close so a few items weren’t available. Portions were decent, a bit pricey compared to others in the area, food is a bit better also. The sweet potatoes, cabbage and greens were delicious! Would definitely return and would highly recommend
