The food here is excellent. We hadn’t been to a Des Moines buffet since the one on SW 9th and McKinley. On Valentine’s Day we went by there and it was Indian. We were not brave enough for that with all the parasites around there these days. What a great time we had (with our 6 year-1 week old in tow)!

Overall a good buffet. Food was hot and fresh. Service could be a bit better. Waited for a drink refill for a while until I had to ask. When it was time to pay I asked the waitress if I paid her or up front(my first time there). She kept her back facing me waived her hand in the air and said whatever you want to do. I don’t think she meant to be rude at all but it came across that way. I will definitely be back though.

I have been coming to New China Buffet & Grill for years, and it never misses. It is easily my personal favorite Chinese buffet in the area. The food is remarkably consistent—every time I visit, the dishes are fresh, hot, and well-stocked.
The chicken dishes here are fantastic. I really enjoy the unique and flavorful buttered chicken, which has a great light coating. The black pepper chicken is another standout—it’s perfectly seasoned and always tender.

Went here with my family for Thanksgiving! It’s a regular food spot in our rotation because you cannot beat the quality. For thanksgiving, nearly EVERY SEAT was completely full and rotating so so fast! Every single food dish was immediately refilled hot and fresh, the servers were one unified force keeping everything incredibly clean and customer ready. Despite the fullness, we were able to walk in and immediately be seated. More than accommodating, and their preparation for the holiday was so incredibly impressive. Cannot recommend this place enough. As someone who goes regularly, I’ve NEVER had a bad experience. Reasonable prices, Fantastic quality for food, and incredible cleanliness. Cannot beat it.

We picked up a to go order tonight and were extremely pleased with the quality of the entries. We ordered Happy Family and were amazed at not only the amount of food but the variety of seafood (shrimp and large scallops) pork, chicken and beef as well as broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots and peas. The fried rice was nicely flavored and tender. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

The food was hot when it needed to be, there was a lot of variety, and the restaurant was clean as far as I could tell. We came for lunch so it was probably cheaper than usual. We’re not huge buffet people but it satisfied our cravings. I do prefer this over the bigger buffet on the west side of town.

This is one of my daughters favorite buffets in des moines. She loves the lo mein and will eat multiple plates everytime we go. I like the butter chicken and 5 flavor chicken the most. My biggest complaint is that they never change the menu its always the same things.
