Sushi was presented well, and tasted fresh. Generous portion sizes. The service wasn’t great, we did wait 25 minutes after receiving our drinks to order our food. Feels more like a ma and pa type of atmosphere.

Absolutely phenomenal sushi and sashimi. Super traditional, I had to giggle cause my husband had to ask for a fork.
The options for sushi and sashimi was great, and super duper fresh. We came because this was one of the only restaurants that I saw where uni was a constant staple on their menu, and I was not disappointed.
We visited on our honeymoon, and now back home, all my local sushi places are ruined because of how good Crystal Fish was.

This place is pure Japanese authenticity with a fun twist—chefs here clearly have a secret mission: to spoil you with the juiciest, dreamiest bites. The fish? So tender and fresh it basically melted on my tongue (yes, I may have fallen a little in love with it). I grabbed the spicy edamame, and wow… that little kick of heat was pure happiness in a bowl. And the draft Sapporo? Honestly, it’s like the beer and the fish have some kind of secret love affair—together they were just perfection. No question about it, I’ll be sneaking back here the next time I wander through Monterey. ❤️

I got a to-go order on 12/1/25 and one of the items was Dragon Ball Z, an appetizer. Upon eating with my friend, she discovered a bug in the dish as seen in the picture. This was extremely disappointing as both of us really like this place.
We returned back to the restaurant and gave the item back. They did offer to make it again, but it was hard to get back in the mood and we declined. Later when we returned, we tossed the remaining of the food as well. Likely just a mistake but I regard Crystal Fish with high standards and as seen by so many reviews, they are a good establishment. So, this happening was quite disappointing. I hope they are more careful next time.

Food was very good! Definitely recommend the Death Star roll and Shawna’s chimichanga roll. Just seemed like a lack of service but benefit of the doubt maybe it was an off day. Either way food is good and worth it.

Do not judge a book by its cover! When we pulled up, my husband was hesitant. But after looking at so many great reviews I was insistent on going in. – We had a group of 10 and the Crystal Fish staff were extremely accommodating. There was constantly water in all of our glasses. The food was absolutely amazing! I have had a lot of sushi. This was by far the best experience I have had. It was so fresh and the prices are so reasonable! We had quite a few newbies trying sushi and they all loved it. Shawna’s chimichanga roll (not pictured) was a hit with everyone at the table! I would highly suggest this to anyone who is a newbie with sushi. – If you are on the fence about where to get sushi, you should come to Crystal Fish!
