Will go back, and ask to cook the meat a bit less.
1. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
2. Good size portions, value for money.
3. Food was very tasty; they didn’t hold back on the spices for foreigners.
4. Lots of seating and beautiful ambient lighting.
Cons:
1. If you are a “healthy size person” sitting in the chairs, there’s barely enough room to sit comfortably under the table.
The food was terrible too, cold starters, my supposedly ‘hot’ curry tasted the same as the other 5 curries we ordered and they were supposedly different curries The Naan bread was thick with grease as were the chips. If you’re visiting Athens, give this place a miss. Terrible over all.
Overall, I would recommend this spot if you are looking for good Indian food in Athens.
First of all, while they have paneer (cheese) on their menu, they told us that they were out of paneer (this was at around 5pm on a weekday, and they close at midnight).
We ended up getting their mixed platter appetizer. This appetizer has 2 samosas (potato puffs), fried paneer (this must’ve been premade since they were out of paneer), and some fried potato and onion bites. This appetizer was bad. The samosas had absolutely no spices or flavor for the filling, just a bland potato taste. The cheese was old and hard. And the other items again had no flavor. What’s worse is that this restaurant didn’t have any tamarind chutney (a sweet dipping sauce) that is extremely common and almost required to eat these with.
We then got a few entrees – a chicken tikka masala, a bhindhi masala (okra), and a dal makhani (lentils). The chicken and okra dishes are what brings this review up to a 3. These were actually pretty good and I would come here to just get those. The chicken curry was nicely spiced and had a very flavorful and thick sauce. The okra dish had nicely shallow fried okra that was not slimy at all. The dal makhani was just ok but had no flavor.
We also grabbed some rice and a variety of naan. The naan is terrible. This was so crunchy that it was useless to eat it with food. Usually this bread should be very soft, along you to scoop up curries in it to eat. This was just not that. The garlic naan was not fresh and did not have any strong garlic flavor to it. The chili naan doesn’t actually have any spiciness to it. They just use green and red bell peppers!
Now, one great thing about here is that prices are all very reasonable for US standards. However if I had the option to eat here compared to other places we went to on this trip, I would not personally come here again.
