The dim sum here is not as traditional as some other places — it has a more modern and almost less authentic feel to everything. They had the standard dim sum offerings such as shrimp dumplings and shu mai, which were decent. The noodles were a bit greasy for me. Overall the service was good and food came quickly.

We tried Bao Dim Sum recently and the meal started off strong. The dumplings were delicious and the spicy wontons had great flavor and heat. The pea sprouts were also a nice surprise and were cooked perfectly. At the beginning of the meal, we really thought we were in for something great.

Once we moved on to the Chinese staples, things took a noticeable dip. The beef chow fun and honey walnut prawns were just alright and didn’t have the same freshness or depth as the starters. It felt like the kitchen nailed the smaller plates but fell short on the classics. The egg tarts at the end were terrible. They were so dry, the egg center was separating from the tart shell when we got them. I could bet they were reheated from frozen.

The biggest disappointment was the duck. It was overcooked, dry and honestly inedible. For a dish that should be a highlight, it ended up being the low point of the entire meal. It really brought down the overall experience for us.

Service was also just okay, which didn’t help. The restaurant wasn’t completely full, but it still felt like the staff was a bit inattentive. With a little more consistency from the kitchen and a boost in service, this place could be great, but our visit definitely missed the mark.

The food here is so fun and delicious. There’s something really enjoyable about ordering a bunch of different dumplings and sharing with the table. As a vegetarian, I had plenty of food options. The corn ribs are AMAZING! I’ll be singing about them for days. We will definitely be back soon for more.

First time here! I picked this place ’cause of the reviews, and I’m not bummed. The vibe’s nice. It’s perfect for a little get-together, and they even have a mini bar. The food’s good, I got the corn ribs, and they’re awesome. I wasn’t starving, so it was a good choice. Hubby got the king pao, and it was good too. Service is good, but the food takes a bit, so heads up.

A bit expensive but worth it. The pork dumplings were a little small but were super good. The pork shrimp shumai was massive, although not quite as good but still delicious. Fried rice portion was massive and good. Baked pork buns were okay, I’m getting them at night though so I don’t think they were fresh and that’s probably why. Overall a good choice.

See my pics for all the food we ordered. All of them are good and flavorful, except for one which is spareribs with black bean. I suggest you skip that one. Hot tea comes in a pot which is nice, but I dont get the price for a draft beer($10+)

As far as getting dim sum in the LA area, this place is actually pretty good! It’s not as traditional as what you would get in the Pasadena area. There are no carts and you order from a menu, but quality is pretty fresh and good portions too. The tables have a Lazy Susan in the center which is nice for sharing.

Some of my favorites are the Crispy Shrimp Balls and Juicy Dumpling Roulette! They have all the classic dim sum offerings too such as Shu Mai.

Highly recommend reservations! They are a smaller place and it can get busy!

I’ve been to Bao Dim Sum House twice, lunch & dinner! They offer a lunch specials menu (Noon-3 p.m.) and a Happy Hour Menu (4-7 p.m.) with excellent prices.

I highly recommend trying the Mushroom Dumplings (really tasty) and juicy Roulette (a sort of colorful dumplings) for their special offers.

We also liked the Egg Drop Soup and shrimp Wonton Soup.

The service is excellent, and the food is pretty authentic!

Dinner time is packed so ensure to come a bit early to avoid a long wait.

I came here 5 years ago and was absolutely amazed!! Really looked forward to getting back. Unfortunately the quality has dropped significantly. Dumpling where a bit dry and the flavors a bit bland. It’s not bad but not good and for the price it’s not worth it for me.
Waiters are really quick and nice tho!
