Staff was not overly friendly, but gratuity is included in the bill.
Upon entering, you see a sign that says 18% mandatory tip, because now the business model of restaurants in this country is that we, the customers, are the ones who have to pay the waiters’ salaries.
We sat down, and the service was terrible, probably because it was packed. The place is small and uncomfortable and looks like any cheap bar or restaurant; in fact, it feels like a makeshift place.
Mediocre menu, nothing special. Just basic dishes that you can get anywhere else for $12, with the difference that here you’ll pay $20 or more.
The waitress refused to serve one of my companions the children’s meal because she wasn’t a child. Which is a bit ridiculous; she just wanted to eat less, so she would pay less for less food. Even so, it turned into a whole drama. The waitress was trying her best to do her job without causing any trouble, but the greedy policies of whoever manages this place made everything more difficult. (I hope the girl finds another job; at least that’s what I wish for her.)
My meal was just okay, but they still tried to charge me an extra dollar for a dish that had a different price on the menu. They adjusted it when we complained. Nobody gives me my money away for free, and these are just tactics to rip off customers without them realizing it.
From the moment I walked in and saw the sign for the mandatory 18% tip, I could already predict how the experience would be. It’s clear this place is managed by someone who has no idea about good customer service or running a business. Just someone desperate to make money.
As for the food, it’s kind of hit or miss. On opening day, which was super busy, the food was actually pretty good. But when I came back the next day after the game for a to-go order, the Brussels sprouts were burnt and greasy, and the pizza—whoever cut it, why did you do me like that?
On the bright side, the bartender was super nice and quick. But she was having a nice chat while my to-go order just sat at the end of the bar.
My wife and I went here with another couple and my wife wasn’t all that hungry…she tried to order something from the kids menu and they refused to let her. I think this is THE most moronic policy…we’re paying for less food, so why does it matter if a child eats it or not? Small portion = smaller price. The reverse is allowed…children can order off the “adult menu”. The waitress argued with us for a couple minutes before she said she’d ask the manager. She came back 10 minutes later and said her manager said no and we needed to pick another entrée. We begrudgingly chose some birria tacos instead. 5 minutes later she comes back with the rest of our food and said unfortunately they’re out of tortillas and we needed to pick yet another entrée. She also apologized and offered a free drink- which we declined. We just wanted to order the entrée in the appropriately sized proportion we desired.
We then asked to speak to the manager. After another 5-10 minutes we get told she’s not actually there but that they’ll put in an order or chicken tenders.
In the end I believe they gave us a full sized chicken tender as my wife only ate half, but they only charged for a kids meal. I appreciate the outcome I suppose but I’ve never had to work so hard in my life to order something off a restaurants menu (which by the way doesn’t mention age requirements for kids meals). I felt this could have been handled far better and although I can’t fault the waitress for the policy, I feel it could’ve been handled better and in a more prompt manner.
Aside from this issue, the food was relatively average, the service was very slow (although I conceded they were busy), and the couple we were with was overcharged for a meal but it was fixed after they pointed it out.
We honestly only ate here because it was the only restaurant we could find with availability and we were in a bit of a time crunch. After this experience, I would never return.
